My CafeRacer Project
Hi all.
my Name is Peter and I am from Germany! I am reading this forum since a few years now - but now I will show you my latest project. "Normally" I restore aircooled yamaha-twins from YDS1 to RD400...
The Bike I now choosed as my project was first shown to German public in a Motorcycle-Magazine in 1990. A Guy had spend a lot of hours and money in this bike to do a very fine cafe Racer. I saw the article in 1990 and loved the bike imedeartly!!
Here is a pic of the bike in 1990:
In 1994 the bike crashed very hard and the guy parked the bike in a shed. He told me later that he had very serius injuries... In 2003 I got the chance to buy the bike - and I got it (via Ebay). Since then the bike parked in my shed...
Last Year I started to take the bike and build my personal "ideal" RD (RZ). That is the plan:
Engine:
+4 mm Crank (Roger Wicked), Rogers Head, Wiseco-Pistons, Dry Clutch (Ducati) from Geosot, no Oilpump, Banshee sidecover (left) , Mikuni 30 TMX, V-Force3 Reeds, Billet waterpump, Big Cooler, Pipes Wiwa (German)
Chassis:
R6 Frontfork, Kern-Forkrbrace, OW01-Clip-ons, White-Power Steering damper, 320 Brembo Oro with radialpump in front, little Brembo-brake in the rear, Spoked-Wheels: front 2,5 with 110/80-18 rear 3,5 with 140/70-18 BT45, FZ600 swingarm, White Power rear damper
Parts:
Alu-tank with aero-cap, Pingel, selfmade rear Seat, front Fender Alu, Moto Gadget Clock, M-Lock RFID Ignition Lock , Zeeltronic, PVL Coil, Headlight Suzuki??, Selfmade rearsets, Mini-Cateye rear light, much titanium and alu screws
I am not ready until now, but will show some pics from last week:
Will keep you informed!!!

Thanks a lot for the warm welcome!
The tank was one of the (few) parts the former owner did "repair" after the crash in 1994. Because of that, the tank has another form then 1990. In my opinion he did it much better then in the first attempt. But the bottom and the other part was still not weldet together until a friend of mine did this job last year!!
Bye

Thanks again...
Paint:
First of all I will eliminate all black paint instead of the rubberparts... the Tank, Seat Headlamp and Fender will be silver, the frame something similar to now- so a kind of metallic grey... and I am thinking to give the tank and the seat a big black stripe on the top (so there is black again).
It will have a very classic look - so the color-spectrum is black/grey/silver and gold.
Bye

Just pure classic good looks,no modern bike ever approaches the classic beauty of the "old" bikes. RZ included, but what you have there is blended a mix that actually works very well. And silver when done right..Think (Porsche, old Honda) racers etc.. looks so just ...... pure class
Hats off, that bike is as cool as any high dollar YZR replica, and has a mountain more charisma. So suave, so smooth, so slick
good job!
