Body Panels & Tank - Restore or leave Original?

#1 Post by kobra » Thu Oct 19, 2023 2:34 am

After completing my RZ restoration, one thing has been lingering. I never touched the body panels, they are original paint. There is a crack in the side fairing, the tank has a couple small dents and rusty spots (no rust inside), and some defects here and there.

I've heard from SEVERAL guys saying that having completely original bodywork is worth more than if I had them fixed and repainted.

Personally, I would like to see the paint/body in pristine condition as long as it's done right and looks factory.

What say you?

I would get a decent painter to fix the paint. I’ve had a few fixed up. They will fill and blow in the paint and buff it all out.

I'd say you're right. The bike may definitely be worth less after you restore the body, and make it look much better.

It seems backwards, but I get it from the "investment" point of view.

I say, restore it to the best of your ability, and ride it like a proud papa! A well-restored RZ will still sell for a nice price.
