Re: At my wit's end with this left cylinder
I thought I might hear that...I managed to get it up to 80psi with serious kicking and remembering to open the throttle. Still not enough, it seems.

Re: At my wit's end with this left cylinder
Latest report: I ran it up and down the road to dry out the cylinders (much to the amusement of my neighbors!) and then tried to start it again with the old starter plunger re-installed. Same prob-right cylinder fired up nicely, left was dead resulting in a wet plug. I then did a compression test an...

Re: At my wit's end with this left cylinder
check your compression on that cylinder. when did this start happening? did it run fine before? How does the plug look? even if the choke plunger is leaking you should still see it running on that cylinder, like shit though (the plug would be very dirty and wet). If there is no combustion then it c...

Re: At my wit's end with this left cylinder
OK, sorry, last question, for my education, really...wouldn't this be a problem only when the choke lever is pushed in? I mean, it won't even ignite the fuel with it pulled out. It seems as though that rubber tip on the plunger is supposed to do its work only when it's pushed in and pressing agains...

Re: At my wit's end with this left cylinder
This is the choke. Mint condition, no? Is there something wrong with it that I'm not seeing?

Re: At my wit's end with this left cylinder
Oops- I forgot to add that I replaced all of the o-rings on the choke, also. (STRIKE THIS) Do you think that's good enough, or would I really need an entirely new choke? Actually, i just went over to remove the choke again. I now remember/realize that it doesn't have o-rings. But I did take it out a...

At my wit's end with this left cylinder
My left cylinder ('89 Canadian model) is not igniting the fuel that is, instead, dripping out of the exhaust manifold and, when I'm lucky, straight into the exhaust pipe. I've rebuilt the carb, synchronized the carbs, confirmed that my float is closing off fuel flow, and I've also confirmed that my ...

Re: Broken float hinge tab
Everyone is right. The Permatex disintegrated completely, which is very disappointing, given that it is supposed to be designed FOR GAS TANKS.
An expensive learning experience, I suppose. Anyone got an extra they want to get rid of? It's the 1989 Canadian model.

Re: Broken float hinge tab
For the sake of science I'm gong to try Permatex fuel tank repair to see how it stands up. I'm pretty sure it's the ethanol in the fuel that destroyed the JB Weld so quickly. I think I've decided to move away from ethanol fuels to the extent I can without too much trouble- if it melts JB Weld I imag...

Broken float hinge tab
My first time in the carbs and the float hinge tab broke...alright, I broke it. :smt022 I tried JB weld and the fuel ate right through it. Then I tried soldering, first with the soldering iron and then with a butane torch, and neither would heat the tab enough to melt the solder. I'm very new to sol...

Re: How to remove oxidation from front forks?
Buy a cheap Harbor freight buffer! Use paint stripper to remove the clear coat then sand with the wet and dry paper used wet. Once clear of surface marks, polish using plenty of compound. Don't push too hard otherwise you can make the surface uneven. Each of my fork lowers took about 3hours total. ...

Re: Rust in tank? Low tech solutions
Hey guys- two questions about electrolysis: 1. Can I do it with the petcock in place? I'm concerned about how the process will affect the plastic screen filter that sticks up into the tank. 2. If not, how the hell do I plug the hole left by removing the petcock? I've tried three different times with...
