Re: seeking gearing advice.

I run 16/44 and quite like it. Not that I spend lots of time on the freeway but do half hour plus stints and it is not to buzzy. At 70 I'm spinning 6200+/-rpm Like the response in the canyons better. That sounds like a ratio I'd be partial to. I'm going to bump up to 41 in the rear and go from ther...

Re: seeking gearing advice.

Thanks for the advice guys. With my current gearing setup the revs are at 5800 rpm when doing 70 mph in top gear, with the 14t the bike was at 7000 rpm at 70 mph in top. I'd like to be in between that so I'm going to put a 41t on the rear and go from there. Thanks.

Re: seeking gearing advice.

Really depends what type of riding you prefer. With the gearing we use it's 10mph per 1000 revs in 6th. No freeway. That's what the ratio was with the 14 up front which was a bit low for my liking as unfortunately with the lack of decent roads around here I find myself on the freeway frequently. Ho...

seeking gearing advice.

Hi folks. I'm seeking some recommendations on what gearing to run. At the moment I'm running a 15/40t setup compliments of the PO. I recently dropped a tooth in the front to 14 but that was too drastic of a change so a swapped the 15 back on. I feel that's too long legged so I'm assuming conventiona...

Re: Windscreen fasteners for RZ350?

Thought I might update my findings. My search for OEM screws proved fruitless. However I did discover that the 5mm screws from economy cycle fit with no drilling. May have been wise to check that before starting a thread on it... None the less the 5mm are a nice fit and also beefier than the tiny OE...

Re: Windscreen fasteners for RZ350?

My screws are 4mm, the ones I got from economy cycle are 5mm. I was unaware of this until they arrived ay my door. I'm going to send out a few emails this week and see what I can find out.

The 86-90 hardware is still available from Yamaha. Those are plastic screws. Are the 84 screws plastic?
This is very helpful, thank you.

Windscreen fasteners for RZ350?

As the title states I'm trying to source OEM style windscreen fasteners for my '84 RZ350 KR, I discovered they are no longer available from Yamaha. I searched various sites but came up empty until I found a kit from economy cycle, unfortunately they are 5mm not 4mm. Any info or leads would be apprec...

Re: Update: Nikiasil plating on standard bore RZ, what gives

Thanks. I went with 100/90 in the front and 120/80 in the rear. I have a few miles to put on for the scrub-in then I will report back with my impressions.

Re: Update: Nikiasil plating on standard bore RZ, what gives

Now that we've moved past the initial post I'd like to update the board on my RZ. I got the RZ back about three weeks / 400 mi ago and it's been all smiles. After it's first oversize, new topend, gaskets, powervalve seals, t-stat, head resurface, and carb adjustment the RZ is like a new machine, now...

Re: Nikiasil plating on standard bore RZ topend, what gives?

Figured I'd chime in since I was the original poster. . A bit presumptuous don't you think? Some of us don't have better things to do. You can't take this away from us. :smt022 Nah enjoy the fresh engine. Decent tyres. Pardon me, what was I thinking. Please continue... :smt003 Thanks, I'm giddy wit...

Re: Nikiasil plating on standard bore RZ topend, what gives?

The break in really depends on the bore clearances...Nothing mythical, is clear as water If the piston is left on tight side and you trash the engine IT WILL seize. If let loose it wont seize but compression will low in no time=race engines A tight engine with good break in will make the cylinder l...

Re: Nikiasil plating on standard bore RZ topend, what gives?

Figured I'd chime in since I was the original poster. After stopping by the shop to retrieve my wiseco pistons and having a lengthy discussion with the mechanic I'm confident my RZ is in good hands. I admit after the Nikasil debacle the initial impression was bleak but we've moved past that. Not to ...

Re: Nikiasil plating on standard bore RZ topend, what gives?

[/quote] First overbore is 64.25. It can be helpful to check with a machinist to see how much it really needs to be bored to fix any cylinder damage. Sometimes it has to go up several sizes to fix the problem. A quick check and the machinist will be able to tell you. Then you buy the pistons and he'...

Re: Nikiasil plating on standard bore RZ topend, what gives?

I had planned to rebuild the topend myself this winter but given the state of the power valve seals and the fact that i'm very busy this time of year, I figured I'd farm it out. That way it'd be on the road faster and I could use the bike how it was intended. Although there is something to be said f...
