I told him he listed it a bit low! I had mine up for a bit higher price for a bit but not Original Paint. Appearances sell even if it's poor, if it resembles original. This one that sold quickly and needed a total engine rebuild after sitting 10 Years also needed significant restoration work

Seller said he recently sold a similar RZ500 Project for $8000. His RG500 in similar condition sold for over 50% more than his RZ500.

Given the fact they were never sold in the US, a lot of Canadian ones went to the US to be raced and the ones here also, and the relatively small # sold in Canada, some will always surface but doubtful in any significant numbers. Anyone wanting one should be trying to secure one. Worldwide production #'s on these mid 80's RG/RZ/NS GP Replica bikes are very low, all in the vicinity of 10000 units, even compared to the JDM 250's which totalled well over a quarter million units. Supply and demand = price. North America, where the total population is around 400 million, had a few thousand of each of these models sold here.

Well hopefully at some point I can happen upon the opportunity to get ahold of a gamma for less than the cost of a full sized pickup, lol. I'm not to concerned about factory original, just mechanically sound. Not the best time for me at the moment anyhow but hopefully in the next few years? I hear what your sayin about supply and demand thing but I think we will reach a plateau soon? The value of these bikes tends to be associated with individuals who were young adults in the late 80's. I'm 41, probably one of the younger guys on this forum? Most millennial riders aren't even aware of what a 2 stroke motor is let alone these few GP type interpretations existed ? I think for better or worse when this bunch of bearded hipsters enters the collector market they might not value these smoking relics the same way we do? I could be way off on this, just a thought...

A couple of weeks ago there was an RG in Red Deer, AB on kijiji. Ask was 15k, sat for 10 or so years, had rough body work. Seller stated that he had 3 and a 1/2 RGs in total, and was on his way to Ottawa to grab the remains where they were stored and possibly sell them too. He also said he had a ton - his words- of NOS parts, so one never knows what lurks out there. The listing was deleted within an hour or so of our conversation, so obviously went quickly while I farted around trying to justify the purchase ..

The Kijiji ad of the RG in Red Deer has been on before, maybe a year ago. The ad sounds very similar to the one you seen the other week with 3 1/2 RG500’s for sale and it said if he put it on eBay it would make big bucks. I live about 20km from Red Deer and he also had a 76 RD400 for sale so I messaged him about it and whadda ya know the ad disappeared pretty quickly.

I think the days of cheap RG500s are gone. An average condition RG500 sold on eBay a couple of months ago for over $30,000 Cdn.

What is the set worth? What is the premium for the RZ500, RG500 and NS400R as a complete set in very good condition and all with fresh engines? What would a collector pay to buy the trio of high quality bikes all in one shot. Finding them separately is difficult. Finding them as a complete collector quality set is rare.

The one I posted in Toronto was owned by a 30 year old 2 stroke nut. Half the guys I know into these are 1/2 my age. Still lots of demand for new 2 stroke Snowmobiles and Used 2T SeaDoo's here. I still have a 2 stroke Polaris 350L 4x4 ATV and a 110hp 2T XP800 SeaDoo that's like a go-cart on water. Lots of 2T chain saws too! Thinking of making a Hot Saw with a CR125 engine I have, just to see how it can cut.

That RG500 in Alberta went for $15000 in hours and needed a ton of work. He is still buying as well, for the right price, as he contacted me about my ad. The one I posted is a better bike. I don't think I would take anything less than $15000 for my RG500 project. The RG/RZ/NR GP Replicas are an unrivalled bit of history where the GP battle between the manufacturers went to the street. Their legacy in Japanese Motorcycle Manufacturing history is unrivalled. They started the JDM 250 Replica production craze which was the cutting edge of technology in any motorized vehicle production in the world at the time. Track technology to street bike production in one year, simply incredible!

A friend went through 5 RG500's in his Racing years, destroying all 5. Many others suffered the same fate, a higher percentage than most other sport bikes. Some RG/RZ/NS's were never even registered for street use.

I was a whisker away from buying that. Took a few hours to think about it and went back to find the ad gone. And only 2 hours from my location. Damn.
