#1 Post by HWY9CA » Fri Jan 20, 2012 10:41 pm

I found this and am doing it today on a customer bike.

12vdc switched valve option:

Tank up Y + QD -quick disconnect installed for easy removal of tank no spill.

Shut off switch - need if you want to drain fuel when putting up, turn off a few block from house.. 12v switch only flows when key is turned on.

So looking at the petcock mod or the 12vdc switch install -the mod is way cheaper. JB weld and some time, the 12vdc shut off is cool but I will be doing the petcock mods for those that ask for it. One positive note about this is now you can turn off your petcock or switched 12v and suck the fuel out of your carbs. When you get home put the choke on and get the rest out and you are set for a no worries leaking rest for your RZ350 or 500. So nice to have a solution.....

Hi,

Many thanks for sharing this. Looks like it could be a very useful mod.

One question though...... If the float bowls are empty, how do I get fuel into them again ? - If I have to keep kicking the bike over it might take quite a bit of effort to get sufficient fuel into the float bowls to start the engine.
Is the empty float bowl idea just for storage purposes ? Obviously the standard prime circuit is a very quick way to refill the float bowls after storage. I suppose for storage reasons its only once a year that lots of kicking the engine over would be required. So perhaps not too big a drawback ?

Cheers
Paul

Brilliant - makes me wish I had a battery, wonder if it would open up enough getting a little voltage kicking it over to flow enough fuel to start or not when running without a battery - might have to try.

Quick disconnect diameters

#7 Post by Nunnster » Sun Jan 22, 2012 2:59 pm

Very helpful thanks. Can anyone tell me please the diameter of the various fuel hoses and therefore the quick disconnects that are required - looks like at least two different sizes are required. Also the use of the Y looks like you've done away with the reserve tank function - presumably then the reserve input to the tap needs to be blanked off? Final question, where can I get the Y connector from? Thanks, Craig

The petcock mod is the fastest and easiest IMHO. The 12vdc fuel shut off was done before I found the petcock mod.

For a question: if float bowls are dry it will take a few kick to get fuel.
Just like stock set up -Gravity feed, and Yes the empty float bowl would be for storage.

I will list the parts needed for the 12v shut off if you like.

Helps me sir! Nice source for the quick couplings.

Qty 3 3/8 couplings are required for the 500? (Have never had my bike together so don't know.)

Thank you.

OK on the RZ500 petcock is not like the RZ350 is not advisable and practical. The 12vdc shut of is the advisable fix. There are other that have ball valve shut offs for the carbs, I am looking into. I have a stock petcock I am looking at and it is not the same as rz350 petcock,,,
I am bad did not see this early on..
But the 12vdc shut off does work for rz500's.
