Getting old paint off the exhausts

#1 Post by Andrew » Thu Jul 08, 2010 9:51 am

To all.

I want to clean up my expansion chambers. The paint is now starting to look crap and is flaking and peeling, but on some parts of the pipes is still ok. But I now want it ALL off to start again.

My question is what is the best way to get this old paint off before respraying new????

Anyone done this before?
Any advise?

Thanks all

Have heated mine on race karts, gets the carbon out to , not a nice job though, or have used caustic soda in a bin (garbage can) and left to soak overnight

I had mine bead blasted then I resprayed with a high temp header paint. Also bead blasting leaves a good texture for the new paint to adhere firmly to. Sprayed about 3-4 coats and looked pretty damn good.

Well I used metal paint stripper, then wire brush, then sand paper.

They came out OK. I need to go over with more sandpaper to get the final finish.

I'm now just looking for the best very high heat paint and will then start painting.

... ongoing...
