The buyer may struggle to get their money back at a future date, but then again they may not care - but now everyone with a rust bucket rotted out RG500 in the back shed they was an impossible project 15 years ago, will be trying to get $30,000.

It's about time. Pristine examples SHOULD be bringing these prices.
Thanks for posting it.

The well followed and tested formula is already in-place. Pretty sure we all know that already ;)

Stock factory production examples (including a floating hierarchy within the various livery schemes, special editions, and low/zero mile specimens) are at the apex of the Collector's aim. Just check the prices for stock exhaust, wheels, forks, parts, etc over the past few years, they've really increased from owners recognizing the growing collector class interest. Heck, the introduction and success of Chinese body plastics in OEM color schemes alone was an indicator of the developing trend.

Enthusiasts and hot-rodders are always the seeds that build awareness which creates the "collectible" designation, and ultimately the demand pulls the item onto the radar screen of investors.

Just my 2 cents...

I fail to see why a colour makes any bike a rare item. All other things being equal, it is just paint. Why does paint being a premium? It shouldn't.

I expect there is one person in the world, maybe 2, who would pay that kinda $ for genuine replica factory paint.
Seems to me most (here at least) would reserve anything even approaching those big bucks to create something a heck of a lot closer to an actual race replica.
Depending on ones priorities, that would get you an actual tz250, a nice 250r, a reasonable 500 track bike and a 500 street bike, or a nicer road/race 500 or ....

I suppose it is time for me to change my RG500
from blue and white to green bodywork so I can add $20,000 in value

Yes, we all know it's just paint..... but, everyone wants a Walter Wolf or a Skoal.... something a little different and rarer than the blue and white ones. Heck I saw two of those drive by in just one day last fall.

Collector market has moved away from Vincents and Bonnevilles as that era of bike collectors all die off. Big twin Vincents were fetching 50 grand and up, but down to 28 grand this year for a Rapide.

All the Japanese bikes of the 70's, 80,s are showing huge price gains this year as a new generation of collectors appear, all buying the bikes they wanted but could never afford when they were 18. Gamma's are so rare, personally I don't think prices have peaked. If you have an RZ, TZR, or a Gamma hang on to it.
