Head gasket coating looks cheap, rest of the set is nothing special and should work.

Re: New life for the Hurricane Katrina bike
Well done! Looks like it was planned like this from factory.
I don't know if I should like this 2 round headlights... I don't like them but in this case it somehow really fits.

Re: Pulling off the generator to remove cranks
Here a picture of my hydraulic tool. In this case with a R1 RN04 flywheel which is a bit different as it only has a center thread. This puller thread is a bitch, you will not get it off with a standard flywheel puller which is basically just a bolt. Before you get it off 30% of the threads get damag...

Re: New life for the Hurricane Katrina bike
I can recommend the stahlwille stud remover. There are cheap chinese copies but I'm happy to have the original. It's important to apply torque only, no bending forces. Thats why I use the bar where I can apply symmetrical forces. As soon as you bend it it will break. If the stud should be reused I p...

Re: My project (1GE)
Got a bit bored by just drawing parts in CAD and reminded back how I started this whole hobby... Buying some really cheap shit and get it back on the road for under 1000EUR total. Scrolled trough some ads as I do it from time to time and there was an interesting bike around the corner - Suzuki SV650...

Re: New life for the Hurricane Katrina bike
Just needs some paint...
By the way, I would need a front and a rear cylinder to cut it and scan the inside.
But I think after sandblasting and getting them to maybe 2nd OS they might be good again.

Re: Restoring after 28 years
Maybe to reduce torque peaks on the crankshaft which was without balancer before.
This can reduce noise in the geardrive.
Idle stability gets also better with more weight on the crankshaft.

Re: Yambits reproduction link bushings and collar
Just to mention, 47X-22184-00 is still available as it is also used in newer bikes (YZF600R).
It costs around 50€
The bearings 93320-32403 are standard IKO TA2428Z for some €.
Not much more money for 100% original spec parts.

Tried to buy aftermarket cables for the RD500... Wrong cable ends at the carb side, wrong bend angle of the steel pipe next to the handlebar...

Re: Cylinder Head gasket
You can get them at every Yamaha dealer, they are still available. Depending on where you live there are also online shops. I would check the head and cylinder surfaces and use a Yamaha gasket. Cheap head gaskets are often painted, Yamaha gaskets have a thin rubber coating (which is deatroyed when y...

Re: My project (1GE)
I don't think that it would make sense to replicate this part. It's a steel part which can be repaired if it's bent from a crash and not really rare. On the other hand it would be quite expensive as it is made out of a lot small parts. Either you spend a lot of money for pressing/stamping tools (onl...
