I have 53G-000260 in NZ :smile:for 25 odd years and a motor 53G 000234 and another under 53g <500 frame (aus) all 5/84 L model or Mk 1 all prob from the same production run maybe ?

now that would explain all the early Aussie / NZ bikes mine included I think you will find they are all the 5/84 53g < 500 were released as RZ 500" L " models . the "N" models came later 1985 or Mk 2's as some people call them and then "RN" models (jap rzv) were made at...

jackson nice article Interesting dates, I wonder how many pre 5/84 aussie rz's are out there? also makes you wonder when the first ones arrived in Aus, and also are they accounted for in the production numbers?

side topic the numbers etched by hand to the cases eg on the 51x motor the 57 / ? behind the cables any idea what they relate to. Every time I have seen them no two engines seem to have the same numbers. eg are there good numbers to be had?

are you sure on this as my bike in 1984 came with 220 main jets then upon reading the 500L model manual (early 1985) found the manual said #195 jets so we order a set which yamaha sent along with a Jap 51x model manual . the jap model had #165 jets so we ordered a set as well. My bike ran very well ...

side topic not long ago a 3xv 250 motor and running gear arrived with some other RZ parts I brought and have since roughly put the bits together but the reed blocks have holes on them that plastic tank/bottles plug into them (I think as theres no where else for them to go) like expansion or overflow...

I thinks Wikipedia has it wrong but even sept / oct 1984 there were at least a dozen teams eg 7 RZ500 starters in Aussie 6 hour and about the same number of NZ teams with RZ's some quite well sorted eg good enough to win the 6 hour so some of them must have RZ's that arrived quite early in 1984.
