Seat, Fuel tank removal

Hey all I just bought a 85 RZ350 canadian edition, and i wanted to remove the seat and fuel tank and the blessed seat got me stumped can anyone help a newbie to motorcycles?

2 latches to the back of the seat, kinda up behind the the tail. You will need a key for one.

ok thanks, im wondering is there an oil pump on the bike, i looked over a service manual and it never mentioned, but it said about an oil tank

yah it does, and when i start my bike it feels like the kick start shaft inside is slipping thats a big job eh:(, i tried to remove the seat but i couldnt HAHA, is there a trick to it?? and the oil reservoir is under the seat eh lol,the previous owner added the oil to the gas, and she smoke heavy, what should i look for when i remove the oil pump cover?

never mind guys thanks, apparently the throttle cable going to the oil pump is broken :(

get it fixed its easier in the long run

Yah im trying to find another cable, and now a new fuel tank, the idiots had a hole in it and patched it with fiberglass and resin, as well as silicone lol

The tanks are getting harder to find and more expensive.Unless it's visible I'd attempt a proper repair to the existing tank.PM me if ya need some help with that.Posting a pic or two of the amateur repair would be nice too.

JB weld or a similar cold-weld two-part mix seems to work well on fuel tanks. Mine had about a dozen rust pinholes and a couple larger ones and I just sanded it down to the metal, roughed it up with a wire brush and JB Welded it. Had a slight leak so I sanded the JB weld smooth and applied another coat. Works perfect now.

sweet i just laid a bit on my tank and smoothed it out by finger, later on ill sand it then lay a bit more on and see what happens if alls good ill repaint the whole bike, thanks for the help guys, the stuff i got is a steel putty thingy i got from a friends father it said you can sand and grind on it even
