Going from anesthesia to welding would be quite a career change! :smt003

Just for my own edification.

Hopefully, my days of working for the man are done.

When I got my TIG box back in 2007, I watched and followed that a lot.
And don't be shy to try & error without a dedicated training. Experience doesn't hurt before attending a class as it tells you what's to be asked.
Thanks, MK! :smt023

If I can't get into the college program, I'll still try to learn on my own.

Believe it, or not, I'm looking to enroll in the vocational welding program AND the vocational engineering program. That way, I could get into some CAD classes.

May as well keep at it, while I can.

Hey Smoker, Good to see you post again. That welder is a good choice and price. I use a similar size/version only a Miller. Both are great machines. Mine is an older one that I bought in the mid 80's. Still use it and weld about 6 hours a day on average. The welding profession is needing good tig welders and running your own business is best. Just get lots of different metals, read and practice. I have not even been on this forum in years as I have been so busy with my fabrication business that I have not worked on my bikes at all. Again good to see your back.

Thanks, Tony!

Not sure how long I'll be around, but trying to make the best of it.

Got registered for the welding program at the local college last night at 1201 am.

Doing this only for fun, and maybe, to help my projects get done. Not even sure if I can handle 4 days a week of college. Hope I don't keel over in the classroom. :smt051

Came across this article.
Looks like GCC finished their new welding facility earlier this year.

Just checked the roster. Only 5 people registered for all 3 welding classes. Might be getting some near-private instruction. :smt026

I'm not embarrassed that I don't know anything about welding, but there will be many stupid questions so I can learn.

I stacked the MIG &TIG to save space and to share an argon cylinder. Just found out the MIG uses mixed Ar/CO2. Stupid mistake.

Beyond that, I can't even think of one thing I would ever use the MIG for. I'll hang onto it for a minute, but will probably sell it for a loss. Still brand new.

Ever wondered why it's called MIG/MAG?

A is for "active" which means the mentioned Corgon (CO2/Argon mix). This is only suitable for mild steel and enhances penetration as it reacts with the puddle.

You can use Argon 4.6 as an alternative, then it's MIG (where the I is for inert gas).
This is suitable for mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum (when the appropriate wire spool is inserted)
The difference is that now the gas is shielding oxygen from the puddle and you'd need more amps for a high penetration.

Manifold collars need to work with the billet exhaust flanges.

The stainless manifold collars are one-off fabrication.

The aluminum manifolds were purchased from Wicked Motorsports.

Are you fabricating pipes?

Garrett at gra2strokes.com sells a manifold and flange kit for pipe builders or to retrofit on old pipes.

Wasting time on 2T forums since the dawn of the internet. RD350LC, TDR250, plated 300XCW. No four strokes.

So few posts on this site lately. :smt102

For the record, I'm not dead. Been posting everything on the RZ500 site.

Will be posting more custom stuff soon. Been focusing on getting some welding skills for my projects.
