head light goes out

#1 Post by rz350newbe » Wed Apr 09, 2008 8:01 am

I have a battery eliminator on my bike. I have been losing my headlight when I brake off throttle. Can I fix this by putting the battery back in? or do I have a charging problem? The bike is running great.

putting the battery back in will most likely fix the problem. I was running a battery eliminator as well but every time I hit the brake near idle my R1 instrument cluster would cycle off, due to low voltage. Putting the battery back in will help maintain 12V when your RPMs ar to low for the charging system to power everything.

I was thinking if you guys that all have RZs not RD make a led brake system... it will look just like stock, but will save a lot of watts...

Would help a lot the charge system... and it will stop this dimming... ;)

I'll post the one that I have on my DT200 :-D

Yep, Felipe, LED lights is the way to go.

When I was fuel injecting my 350, I was really looking hard for some more watts to drive the electric fuel pump. With the relatively small battery, the fuel pump would barely run at idle with the brakes on. With the LED replacement, no problems.

http://www.superbrightleds.com Part number 1157-R19. Get the narrow view angle. These "bulbs" fit into your stock light sockets. No mods required.

It may let you get away with running the battery eliminator and the current draw for the brake light is 68 milliamps. Less than one amp!! Compared to the 6 amps that your incandescent are using.

because that's really an issue that I have to go thru... I have another rear 2 seats fairing that I'll have to build this led board...

Thanks guys. I will try the LED light first. I went to the local bike shop to find a battery last night, but the parts guy couldn't figure out how to find a maint. free battery that was close to the same size as what I needed. I gave up on him.

If you end up deciding to go with a battery try Interstate Batteries. If you go to the local distributor you can pick up a sealed lead acid battery for under $20 and there is no shipping. I'm running a SLA1050 cost $19.95 and works well. For the location nearest you go to http://www.interstatebatteries.com search under locations for "All-Battery Centers". The prices they list online are actually higher than if you go pick them up at the distributor.

You might want to try this site:

http://autolumination.com/1156_1157.htm

I've already purchased a few things from them. I like the wide selection offered.

I noticed that the bulb is red, I wonder if the white one would appear brighter?

I'd love to see a pic of the LEDs lit up in the taillight.

I guess the LEDs don't shine any light at all on the licence plate. With my luck, I'll probably get a ticket for that.

You would want the rising sun model.

Guys,

You want to use a red LED with a red lens, a yellow LED with a yellow lens, etc... This is because the light coming from the LED is not full spectrum.

The lens is a light filter, meaning that a red lens tries to filter all light that is not red. You simply will not see a white LED behind a red lens as well as a red LED behind a red lens.
