One-owner 85 RZ...More pics added

I'll try to keep this short: while in college in 1987, I decided I wanted an RZ, so I went literally a block up the street to the Yamaha dealer and spoke with the owner. He said: "You won't find one of those, they're all gone." I walked back home and called the Yamaha dealer in my home town of Wenatchee, Washington and asked the same question. They asked: "Do you want a white and red or a black and yellow one, we have one of each still in the crates." Holy crap, I was prepared to take what I could get, and now I had to choose! As you can see, I went with red and white. A few weeks later, while riding around my college town, I spotted a black and yellow RZ and chased him down. He had bought his bike two days after I had at the dealer in Wenatchee!
I rode this bike to school, home on weekends, to Laguna Seca in '93 and for the last 32 years. Made a few mods, nothing too adventurous. Currently running 1st over Wisecos and probably ready for another top end refresh along with some winter TLC now that the weather here is junk. Maybe someday I'll paint one of the wheels to match...

Terrific story. Not many guys that can say they have owned their RZ from new.

A friend of mine still has the RD350LC he bought new in 1982.

Cool. Would like to see more pics.

Ordered my #1 RZ350 in '84. Arrived at the dealer in January of '85.

Looks like I'll have it 'till I die.

I know how you feel. :smt023

Thank you guys, I'll work on pictures...maybe some old ones, even. I'm trying to pare down the herd right now, but I can't imagine ever parting with the RZ; we've been through too much for that!

That is awesome.

At the time it's probably easy for people to sell in order to make room for the latest and greatest bike on the market. Then looking back you wish you still had the old bikes (sometimes).

This day sucked. Mounted a new front tire, went for a test ride and got tossed through the 'screen at 100+. I was young and dumb, walked away with bruises and scrapes. Bike was not so lucky.

That's better, all fixed...well, I wasn't much for cosmetics. It's functional, now with tapered head bearings, fork brace, steering damper and reduced steering lock (it seemed like a good idea at the time!).
My buddy Marty in the background. I bet he wishes he had kept that Interceptor, it was a nice bike.

Well...growing up took a little while! And yes, I still have the Fox jacket AND the AGV boots. The pink Shoei (it was on sale!) is long gone, I'm an Arai guy now.

Great pics.

I used to wish I'd kept all my bikes. These days I do.

Great pics!

I very much regret selling my '91 TZR250R 3XV.

The rest I don't miss.

Cool storey Wade, Guess where I found my 84 RZ Yellow/Black "Wenatchee Washington" about 2 years ago on Craigslist, called the day I found it and told them not to sell it, I would be there in the morning with cash, only rode it one day because the engine needed to be rebuilt and I did not want to hurt it. About 5K in repairs and upgrades later and it's still in my garage, No Regrets! hopefully I'll have time to finish it this summer before I buy another Bike, MT-10
