question regarding RZ350 locks/keys

I have a US 1984 RZ350 whose restoration is down to the little details. My key works in the ignition lock cylinder and the gas cap lock cylinder, but not in the helmet lock cylinder. Looking at the keyway, the helmet lock cylinder is that of another key code. Did the bikes originally have all three locks on one key or did the helmet lock use a different key?

Thanks.

Should be one key. Your helmet lock is probably a replacement. There is a way to change the barrels out so they fit, but someone else would need to pass along that info.

That was my plan assuming they are supposed to be all keyed to a single key. I bought the "project" bike off someone else, so I don't know the history of all the parts. I'll need to source an "A" key code helmet lock cylinder.

so long as the barrel takes the same key you can adjust the tumblers to get your key to fit, its simple but fiddly to do.

That is my issue, i.e. the keyway is not the same which is why I posted for a type "A" lock cylinder in the "Want to Buy" forum. The keyway in my helmet lock is for an "C" or "E" type key.

Jon, we are both helping others with our comments. I was just further clarifying what the issue is as it is a subtle difference and your pic better shows the issue.

How does one tell what style the lock is without the key? I have a few but they are all missing keys.

Look down they keyway and try to match the shape of the slot to the pic Jon posted.

A and B are the easiest to discern and are mirror images of each other. C and E are similar as are D and F and may be harder to tell apart.

If you have an original key that fits a given slot (even if it's not the particular key for that lock), the key code is on the key. The first letter of that code is the key/cylinder type.

Under the ignition , there's a number with a letter , same for the helmet lock .

The key number is present on the ignition lock only ( sorry for this mistake ) , you probably have a pattern lock if there's no number .
