Bought a TL1000S

I had a beater bike like this a couple of years ago and always wanted a nicer one since. A friend of mine brought this back from Ontario, had the high bar set up and the pegs have been lowered 1 inch. Works great, makes a good road bike with that setup and can put some mileage on it, except they don't have much for fuel. Truly a fun bike and sounds awesome. Cheers.

Nice bike. I would like to ride one with all the comparisons to the Ducati motor. Buddy had a streetfighter (after it hit a deer) of the R but I never got a chance to ride it. Be interested to know if you experience the wild rear end they are known for. It is usually just a bit of hype that gets blown out of proportion but need an owner to know for sure...

I think the rotary shock thing was really bad wasnt it? I had friends who had them and didnt deny it was bad when the mags started saying they had issues.

Very nice TLS. I had a TLR. Loved the bike except the low bars. Couldn't put high higher bars on it do to the fairing. Sold it and bought a ZRX1200. Love that one too.

The TL motor is an awesome power plant with a Jackel and Hide personality. Would like another or maybe a later SV 1000.

Thanks guys...........if you look at the middle pic, the fellow who owned it in Ontario (for 12 years), he trimmed the fairing and removed the mirrors, that way the bars will fit. He made a custom fairing bracket that is a lot smaller than the original. It's a 97 so didn't come with a steering damper until they did a recall or something and started attaching them. He also added one to this bike.

Rear shock? Ya that original setup was crap, my 99 I had was orginal and the back end was bad! This bike has a brand new Bitubo which is the cats meow, works great. I rode it from Edmonton to Winnipeg in one day this past October, 1300k and it worked awesome. The endless torque is some much fun on a 2 lane highway, makes passing a breeze. The only bad thing was I rode through about 700k of nonstop rain and it was about 7 degrees C for most of that. I was using a full heated setup, pants, jacket and gloves and that saved my life.

Another pic, bike has 67K by the way. Would never know it the way it rides.

Nice! I never understood the appeal of a big V-twin until a friend lent me his TL1000R. Couldn't find a decent one but I Ended up buying an Aprilia RSV 1000...

Bought myself the Superhawk (VTR 1000) in summer 2014 from a friend who also has RZ's.
The plan was to have something cheap and reliable for recreational riding. Since then the VTR had more then 10.000 km added, the RZ's only a few 1000 ...

And guess what, on the VTR forum there's a couple of two stroke addicts, too ;-)

Yep, I've recently got a VTR1000 as well.
A nice bit of kit!

In that case you may once make use of this info:
The VTR has a "2 box" ignition. Box 1 is the control unit that calculates the necessary timing just like the VCDI from Zeeltronic.
The so called converter is just there to create a spark if the control box sends the signal. Funnily this is not a TCI like you'd expect from a 4 stroke, but a CDI just like you have it on RZ's.
http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 31&t=33343" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Ignitech offers a pretty cheap plug and play kit to replace the control unit for the VTR with a TCI-P4 (with this mod you could use a shift rod sensor and forget about using the clutch). Convenient thing: Programming is the stock map and there's an adaptor cable that fits the stock bike harness.

Another way to skin the cat is to get rid of both boxes and use an Igitech CD-CDI P2 to create the spark. If someone is interested I can send you the .ign file.
Also if anyone needs the mentioned 3D map-compare tool, I could send that, too.

Hullo MK,

a good read and it wasn't something I was aware of!
I have looked at the forums and decided to change the auto cam chain tensioners to manual even though my bike has only done 15,000klms.
It's been set up on a dyno with staintune muffers, a Dynojet kit and K+N filter and feels crisp though it was so long ago(1998) that I rode a standard bike I can't really compare(plus mine is a later 2005 model).
My first big twin and I'm really enjoying it!

The German guys mostly use these:
http://www.vtr-higgens.de/shop/index.ph ... 1389575334" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's an automatic type that you assemble once and then never need to touch again.
