Re: Picking Up My 1984 RZ-350 Project Bike This Weekend
Question:
Having a hard time locating a replacement tachometer cable for my 84.
Finding replacements for the speedo is easy. Would the speedo cable work as a tach cable?

Re: Picking Up My 1984 RZ-350 Project Bike This Weekend
UPDATE:
Haven’t been able to spend much time on the RZ lately. However, I did manage to get the frame powder coated and assembled it into a bit of a “Roller” this last weekend. I wanted to get into a roller so I can install a few parts on her as I get time.
Now I’m trying to figure out where all the electrical goes. (remember, I picked this bike up in pieces)
Any help I can get on where the components are to be located would be ULTRA helpful. Thanks.

Motor installed.
Still lots to do but it's getting closer.
New pistons are always a good thing.

Looking good and good to see a project moving forward..
Powdercoat excellent I'm a big fan of it at do it at the start of every project.
Don't forget to get that transfer pipe and hose between the reed intakes in position before you do anything else. Top rad filler junction and top hoses, coil, wiring loom in that order follow.
I'm a plus one fan of the Australian Canada 83 31k colours.
If I livid in Canada I would try and get a job as a posite just to drive the truck, I love those colours.
Keep at it, your doing a great job.

Going to re-do the wiring loom. I have most (if not all) parts and connectors. I laid the wiring out a couple weekends ago and it seems that I have the basic lay-out figured. With the aid of my shop manual it should be done proper.
Cleaning and bead blasting the carbs tonight and tomorrow.
Love this project and the process.

Where does this fuel line go to?
Is it an overflow for the petcock?

Right hand carb, on the inside.

So that line feeds fuel to the right carb?Jessy wrote:Right hand carb, on the inside.

That carb gets fuel from the crossover line between them, correct?

Re: Picking Up My 1984 RZ-350 Project Bike This Weekend
That is a vacuum line which activates the flow of fuel when the Pistons move, creating a vacuum in the diaphragm.
The crossover rubber line is for the "choke" enricheners. The larger spigot is for the fuel, which Ts off to each carb.

Re: Picking Up My 1984 RZ-350 Project Bike This Weekend
Rory, JonW,
Here are some pictures of my carbs. Accroding to the guy I purchased this bike from, these carbs came off an RD400.
Do I attach the hose from the inside of the right carb to the fuel petcock.
Seems that the hose from the inside of the left carb is from the same area inside that carb too.?
I injected air into both those hoses and the air came out from the needle valve stem.
If that's the case I think I need to put a "T" in those hoses and then attach it to the petcock.
Confused for sure.

Re: Picking Up My 1984 RZ-350 Project Bike This Weekend
Those carbs do not have a vacuum line spigot. You have two options: 1). Drill a hole on the intake side of the carb, not the air box side, (only one carb) and press in a spigot to hook up a vacuum line to run to the petcock. 2). The easy way, buy an RD350LC fuel petcock or equivalent. Perhaps a non vacuum high flow Pingle, and install that.
Those carbs need a sonic cleaning. The stains near the air holes and plugs are what tells me that.
