oil pump

#1 Post by speedfrk » Fri Aug 11, 2023 4:57 pm

Decided to take the oil pump apart and check everything and replace seals while the engine was apart. This is a 4K mile bike that had never been touched so I was surprised to see this when I took the oil nipple off to check the ball/spring. Must have been done at the factory. Apparently didn't affect the flow to the carbs but did keep the ball open all the time. Can't even imagine how it could have happened.

I've seen that a few times, don't know how it's caused. You will almost definitely need to replace the corresponding valve seat as this condition will damage it, and it will always pass oil.

Arrow, is there supposed to be oil in the worm drive section of the pump? I rebuilt it while the bike was apart and checked the clearance and all was good but I pulled it since I'm replacing the water pump seal and a bunch of oil came out.
