Which side does the carb bowl with the jet go on.
I can't find the answer in any book

Perhaps you could give a little more clarification: are you referring to the carb with the choke (left) or the non-choked carb on the right?

Bowl with jet goes left.
You can mount it to the right side, too, but in that case the right one is on the wrong side and the choke system is not working
