New to Me 3 rail bike trailer

I have been looking for one for years to be able to haul all 3 bikes to the Gap and spied this trailer on the Henrico, VA Craigslist. I couldn't pass it up. A couple in thier 80s had it since 2010. They bought it from the original owner/ fabricator and used it to trailer thier BMWs around. They said it has never sat outside. They sold the bikes due to health reasons. Very nice people. They gave me an excellent deal on it and a bunch of free loot as well including a box full of tie down straps, a spare that has never been used, another box full of tricklechargers for bikes, two nice loading ramps and a grease gun and grease for the bearing buddies in the hubs. I had to change the 4 wire plug on the harness in thier driveway as they had the male female plugs opposite from my truck. One tail light didn't work and the lady of the house got her Phillips screwdriver and put in a new bulb while I was hooking it up. It is titled as a utility trailer. I towed it home at 70 MPH plus for the 100 mile trip with no problems. The tires have a 2002 date stamp on them and some small weather cracks starting so they will be replaced.

That looks like it will get the job done. Nice and heavy duty. Way to go.

I like it Tim and sounds like you got a killer deal on a well kept unit. Looking forward to seeing it at the Gap next Spring.

Thanks! I got some good advice and did some research on the bearing buddies. I put about 5 pumps in them this morning from a regular grease gun and pistons moved out so all is well there. I will be getting some new tires before spring.

Be careful the first time you load 3 bikes.
Most 3 rail trailers that I have seen have the center rail moved forward more than the left and right so that your handlebars wont hit. The one you have looks like all three are equal.

Thank you. I am worried about that too. Just looking at it I am thinking I am going to have to back the middle bike in and then pull in the outer two to keep that from happening. I also considered cutting the front stops off and mounting three wheel chocks in there so the front wheels are locked in place like on my 2 place bike trailer. Then I could stagger them enough to pull all 3 in.

This is how I have to arrange three bikes in my 6 x 12. If I ever find a good deal on a 7 x 14 ... The 500 uses a pit bull trailer restraint. The other two are backed into harbor freight wheel chocks. Your wheel chock idea sounds like a good one if you have the length.

Yep the length is likely to be an issue. I will have to measure it out.

I got three new chocks for an early birthday present from the Bridal Unit. Drill four holes for each one and Bob's your Uncle. Preliminary measurements indicate that I can position the two outboard chocks approximately 18 inches to two feet back from the middle chock which will enable me to load all three bikes facing forward. I am currently involved on negotiations for two new radial trailer tires for Christmas. Rural King has them for $59 each. :smt003

Seems Big enough for a triplet of Rod Hogs .. fully dressed.
Had a DIY trailer for years. Consisting Entirely of C section Steel Three as parallel rails for the Bikes (upturned at the front) Another underneath as the main beam with. A v shape to the trailer hitch
Mini rear axle hubs ( Currently VW rabbit ones are similar weld ons. ) .
V light Very robust. Cheap too.
Took an entire day to mig together :smt002
Thing traveled from Vancouver to Montreal. Vancouver to Miami and many times to LA.

My current trailer I have had since 1988. It is a kit trailer that a dear friend gave me. He put 78 Ford Granada hubs on it. I have towed it all over the country and replaced one set of wheel bearings in 2008 because it had been 20 years not because they were bad. It has been a good trailer.
