Anyone running 1998-2001 R6 Front End?

#1 Post by Redline Junkie » Thu Mar 11, 2021 9:54 pm

Hi

Just curious is anyone is running a 1998-2001 R6 front end on the RZ350?

Wondering about fitment and performance.

Thanks
Rob

I do.
Compared to the RGV 250 front end it saved 6 kg and offered adjustments for damping.
So performance is good.

Only thing was that you need to modify the lower yoke to carry appropriate bearings for the RZ frame.
Plus some custom end stops need to be fabricated.

As a matter of interest how does the lower yoke need to be modified?

I pressed out the tube, welded and re-shaped to have appropriate length / diameter for the RZ frame.

Thanks. I'm looking at R6 forks, so it's good to know what work is required.

Doesn’t all balls bearings do a conversion for these to fit or is it for the 500.

To use the R6 stem you'd have to make a spacer to make up for the extra stem length and use conversion bearings.
If you want the spacer at the bottom of the stem you have to make sure there is enough pressed fit area above the spacer for the bearing.
If thats an issue you can split the spacer in half and place one spacer above the top bearing and the other below the bottom bearing.

-----------------------ID-OD-Height
RZ350 Top Bearing: 25-48-13
RZ350 Bottom Bearing: 30-48-12

R6 top and bottom: 30-55-17

RZ350 with R6 forks Top and bottom conversion bearing:
RZ350-R6 Conv Top: 30-48-12
RZ350-R6 Conv Bottom: 30-48-12

Alls Balls Part Num: 99-3515-5 (Need 2).

Alls Balls fork conversion page: https://www.allballsracing.com/forkconversion

For my GSXR stem I used 2 spacers. One on top one at bottom.
I could lower the clamp but I’m going to lower the front end a bit and want to limit the amount of fork tubes sticking up through the triple clamp.

That's excellent, thanks. I was mainly wondering if the R6 stem diameter was too large to fit a bearing in. Question answered.

Thanks MK & Y/B, this is great information. I have a high performance riding academy at the end of May and I would love to have this conversion in time for that. I have the FZ600 swingarm and SV Rim ready for the rear!
