fuel tank VACUUM PIPE rz 350 1989

#1 Post by jeremie » Thu Apr 15, 2021 5:45 pm

Took apart motorcycle months ago and now putting it together after an engine overhaul
Can't remember what is going on with the fuel tank
The underside has a fuel pipe AND a VACUUM PIPE
anyone know what is the vacuum pipe for? connected to what?
in addition, in the Hanes manual the VAC pipe is the more forward of the two pipes and in the Yamaha shop manual supplement it is the more rearward of the two pipes. Anybody notice that? Any thoughts?
Thanks Mark

The vacuum hose goes from the petcock to the vacuum port on your right carburetor.

The small fitting on the petcock in the vacuum fitting. It is part of the rear cover. The larger fitting is the fuel supply.

That hose is the vacuum to operate the petcock. Vacuum pulls the petcock diaphragm back to allow fuel to flow in the ON and RES positions. The PRI position is 100% wide open fuel flow with no vacuum needed.
