In today's market I think that would go for 40k..... I think that would be a pretty accurate assessment. Not my type of bike... I am not a purist nor do I prefer collectibles.
That bike would make most men, whom covet the OEM scene, wobble at the knees and run to the restroom for a sausage slapping.....As that's a Holy Grail of OEM, for those inclined..

Ah, I don't know. The tires are probably rotten, and there might be spider eggs in nooks and crannies. I'd expect a pretty good discount.

The crate is a good portion of the value.

The minute you unbox it, value plummets

Just like OG Star Wars toys and Hot Wheels.
Wasting time on 2T forums since the dawn of the internet. RD350LC, TDR250, plated 300XCW. No four strokes.

Entirely a talking and 'investment' piece. I pity the friends of the person that eventually buys it having to hear about that idiots crated, new, super rare RD500.

I wasn't sure if that was the one, I thought it was an RZ500. Then there is the two crated RG500's but I haven't seen them since ebay. I think it is like a time machine of the mid 80's but sad because someone should enjoy it by riding it not looking at it.

Yes.... For a collection... Absolutely.....that's where it's at...however nice it would be to ride...it would be a damn shame to remove it from it's original home.
If should stay that way.
A decade ago, at a bike show there was a crated Kawasaki 750 triple.....Leno nay have bought it, as that's what he came to look at.....
There only that way 1 x ever....after that there just a bike

Have you read all the postings relating to this article

If you scroll down to near the end you'll see some numpty claim that RZ's are 4 strokes only RD's are 2 strokes

IF it was found in Australia and not imported from elsewhere then it would be an RZ

A friend of mine has the first of the R1's still in its crate stored in outback NSW where its nice and dry, he sold one to some sheikh in Saudi Arabia for a tidy profit
