My Blinged-Out RZ Project

Re: My Blinged-Out RZ Project
The deal is done.
Jeff Henise will be making pipes for this bike. Stainless or titanium.
I'll be making silencers.
We compromise on the design. I want more custom. He wants more speed.
Working well, so far.

Well, his shop isn't that far, but it's L.A. miles. Could be a couple of hours one-way, depending on the time and day.
Lately, I've been doing as much as I can from bed.
As far as I can remember, he's not had a website for purchasing merch.
Re: My Blinged-Out RZ Project
Ahh ok, just a thought. I am aware of the LA traffic so understand that.
Nah he website has been off for years, he's always up for a chat on the phone tho and defo has stock of things.

Still have more work to do on the cover. Will try to put a window with red lexan into the top half, to match the other side.
Need to polish the fins on the H2O pump cover.
Aluminum + stainless shaft H2O impeller ready to go in.

Re: My Blinged-Out RZ Project
Called Crank Works to ask if they would allow me to send in my own bearings, if I buy a crankshaft.
Was told there is only one more crank in the size I want, and another one is several weeks away. So, had to grab it, now.
They'll allow me to send in ceramic bearings, so had to order them now, as well. Need dry clutch bearings ASAP for mockup.
No changing the +7 stroker idea, now.

Re: My Blinged-Out RZ Project
Since you've located a friend whom actually has a running 7mm YPVS cylinder, and you are now commissioning one. I'd love to follow any info and progress you do.
I've asked for years, from some quite reputable tuners, and have been shot down, or left not confident in others ability to achieve what they say, as they had no working examples.
So any insight into a path for others to follow would be awesome!
Port Timing and squish with a accurate working YPVS cylinder would be quite nice.
If jumping to a 7 mm can be as beneficial as the move from a stock crank to a +4mm it would be so awesome.
My dream would be a high revving 7mm with optimum as possible port work..a screaming motor
Please do show your progress and any concerns that may appear, hopefully it all works out great for you, you so deserve it. Your a all star O.G. West coast RZ dude!

This came in. Another set of GSXR600 forks. Need them to mock up the bike for pipe fabrication. Cheap on Ebay.
Re: My Blinged-Out RZ Project
From my browsing, looks like there're 2 types of dry clutch packs for the Duc dry clutch- marketed as aluminum-type, or steel-type. Definitely says not to use the steel-type with an aluminum basket (without inserts).
I have the Barnett aluminum basket with stainless inserts. I believe steel-type pack is the appropriate choice, and also a steel hub.
Here's the problem. I'm not sure about my clutch hub. It's aluminum, and could be a one-off. Will try to verify the origin, but might not be able to. Last thing I want to do is mess up the hub, so I think using an aluminum-type pack will be easy to replace when it gets beat up by the Barnett basket.
The best move might be to get a pure aluminum basket. But, I'm thinking that the stainless inserts could give the hub more longevity.
Will post pics of the hub.

Re: My Blinged-Out RZ Project
Remember that the stock RD setup has aluminum hub/basket and steel plates.
And I'd add that the basket is one of the weaker alloys.
So what are you exactly worrying about? That the bike won't be presented on the year 3000's world fair as the last running RD in the Milky Way ?

Honestly, I didn't know that about the RZ.MK wrote: ↑Fri Jan 25, 2019 5:41 pm Remember that the stock RD setup has aluminum hub/basket and steel plates.

I read that the aluminum-type clutch pack won't hold up long with a steel (insert) basket, and is not recommended. Just trying to explain why I would do it. Not worried about this.
I do have worries about this dry clutch, though. Will get more stuff posted, and I appreciate your opinion and judgement on my ideas.
Re: My Blinged-Out RZ Project
The Ducati pressure plates have a mark that needs to be aligned with a mark on the hub.
NOT my hub:
Of course, my custom hub doesn't have any alignment mark:
What's the purpose of the alignment mark???
Rear view of the pressure plate. Alignment mark is on top. Notice the left and right side cutouts are mirror image. Also, all of the 6 cutouts on each side are different.
What's the purpose of these cutouts???
Hope I don't need to join a Ducati forum to figure it out.

Re: My Blinged-Out RZ Project
The alignment mark makes it all go together in one hit. Without them you may have to rotate the plate until the cutouts align with the notches in the hub.
Re: My Blinged-Out RZ Project
Thanks, Kenny!
Hope you're doing well.
The shape of the cutouts made no sense compared to the outer shape of the hub.
You're totally correct. Without the alignment mark, I had to keep turning the plate, until I hit the correct alignment. Then the plate drops all the way down onto the hub. Never realized it dropped all the way down. Never hit the sweet spot before.
