I could ride all day with the pipes scraping on the ground.
Now that would be a damn sin!

:smt003 Ha, ha!!

Didn't have a clue, at first.

Nope! Those "X"s on the crossbar show how much to chop off. I'll be installing custom sliders on the bar ends. Didn't want to chop before the pipes are done. The blue tape starts at the outside of the side covers. The covers stick out the same amount, just have more bar on one side to chop off.

I know a lot of people have been watching and waiting.
I don't want to let you down, but the clock is ticking.
I will do everything I can to get the bikes finished.
Thank you for the kind words. :smt006

Pipes are getting close to finished.

Not sure if we'll have time to get the billet spring hooks done. Still hopeful.

All my downpipes are scraped, dented, or both.
Can't imagine these pipes will be different. :smt003

Trying to get these finished.

Pipe construction will probably be done this weekend.

We'll wait until the spring hooks are done. :smt045
Jeff will be racing at Phillip Island, but can finish after he comes back, if necessary.

I don't think Jeff would mind if I post what he told me a while back...

"Hi Pete-
I wouldn't touch the machining of those clips with a 10 foot pole :) Have you ever machined stainless with small cutters? It's a nightmare. I have a lot of experience with it too. See attached for some of my 316 work. Lots of surface, holes, threads, and o ring grooves. Anyway, if they pull it off they will be pretty cool parts."

Mason Cantar used this tiny cutter for the spring hook cutouts.

"Ran this little guy at 7500rpm and 6.5 IPM. Easy peasy, ran like butter."

One of the best machinist/welders I've met. Just have to wait until the machines are open to get my stuff done. Takes 3 operations in the CNC machine, plus some manual cutting. If things go well, I'd like to get 24 more of these made out of titanium, with different bottom radii. Kind of skeptical that's going to happen. :smt037

The SXV frame has nice mounts in the perfect place for downpipes.

Almost used these for the engine torque bars. Glad I ran torque bars to the cradle, the way Yamaha designed it.

Image

Asked Jeff to rubber mount the pipes. I also rubber mounted the stingers and tips.

Image

Frame clearance is nice and tight.
I'll add the usual hardware, and maybe some custom rubber cushions.

Stinger couplings are cut.

Need to get thicker o-rings.

Pipes are looking serious.

Guess I need some nice tips to fit onto the lower couplings. Then there'll be a nice option for open pipe mayhem. :smt003

Getting there.

Image

Upper part of the pipes will be covered by the lower side panel. Never seen this panel in white. I think this one is painted. Will try to get it in white to match the other plastic.

Rear suspension compressed.

Waiting on the machined spring hooks.
