My highly modified "RZ350" track-day bike. A young guy with an R6 came into my pit to find out how the hell I managed to make a 350 too fast for him to catch! :smt003

Man I love TLR1000Rs I had been looking for one, but there rare gems, when I do find one it's rather expensive or high mileage. I ended up with my GSXR 750, which is ultimately a faster bike...but I really wanted the TLR damnit, Blue & White ..they sounds great and love to wheelie just like a RZ..what else could be more pleasant to ride in a Sunday ride! There a "cult" bike same as the RZ.

Good eye! When the TLR's came out the magazines dubbed them "widow makers", but I found it pretty easy to ride. Gobs of torque, reasonably good handling. Not like a GSXR, but it was a good track-day bike. That particular one was never registered for the street. I see TLR's for sale locally fairly often, but one was enough for me.

I thought it was the TLs that was the widow maker. I went through a few TLRs, Just sold my last one last year, Had a set of big bore Yoshis on it, Loved it.
I did have to replace the tranny in it though, That was a problem with them, second gear letting loose.

Never had any transmission trouble with this one, but it didn't see a lot of miles. The miles it saw, though, were all race or track day miles, but with that comes a lot of maintenance.
Suzuki used electronics to cut the power in first and second gear on these bikes after some early riders had problems controlling their right wrists properly. There was a common fix, done to this bike, that involved a couple of resistors and a transistor to fool the computer into thinking the bike was always in third gear or higher so it would develop full power in the lower two gears. It would power wheelie half way down the front straight at The Ridge (lucky me, a really nice track 20 minutes from my door), and it was pretty easy for no-talent guy like me to point the bike by spinning the rear wheel. But it absolutely ate up rear tires. I hated to sell it, but it wasn't worth having a bike that becomes more obsolete every year just to do five or six track days a summer.

A bike with an RZ engine does not qualify as a highly modified RZ. You need to retain the frame for that moniker.

:smt003 That was a joke, son. The only thing retained from an RZ were the extra decals I had left over after painting my RD-350. I thought it was funny to show up with a Suzuki liter bike with Yamaha RZ decals on it.

What does this entire page have to do with a 2015 R1 shock install?

The joke obviously works!...lol
On my 2nd RZ ,with the fast motor, with a razor blade, I used to trim the 3 into a 7...So it read 750
Amazing how many people I fooled, just for fun

Certainly I've hijacked the page, after beginning by inquiring whether the project was complete or whether anyone else had made the modification to their bikes. I'll post one more off-topic photo, of my Z-car, then apologize and leave the thread for the original subject.

Nothing... :smt044

Just a little bit of fun...

On a side note, Is it not a lot easier to just pop in an R6 shock, It practically fits with just a few mods, No welding etc etc etc.

Continuing the side track, that Z is identical to the first car I ever really noticed as 'cool', a neighbors boyfriend had one that colour when I was about 10 (which would have made it a fairly new car at the time).

So.... to return to the R1 Shock thread:

I ordered a 2015 shock from an eBay vendor for $70, including shipping. The ad said it has 600 miles on it, and judging from the condition, I think that's fair.

I have a Harbor Freight band saw, so I cut off the eyelet threads and the bottom threaded portion of the shock, the part the eyelet threads into. I left 6 mm of alloy on the bottom of the shock.
