TZR 250 swing arm

#1 Post by 17again » Sat Sep 23, 2017 1:43 pm

can any one tell me what is involved in fitting a tzr 250 2ma swing in to a ypvs frame.

does it fit in the frame without cutting down?

I'm surprised this doesn't come up more often. The 2ma/1KT arm is super light and allows you to run a nice narrow wheel to maintain handling.

The TZR frame is very narrow. I can easily get you a measurement for a swinger if you would like.

Didn't hear back but was curious myself so I went and did the measurement.

The 2MA/1KT swingarm is identical in width at the swingarm pivot to the stock RZ350 arm.

2MA swinger is 1.5" longer and uses a similar mounting system albeit with narrower swingarm bracket mounts.

2MA swinger weighs ~6lbs whereas the RZ is ~9lbs.

Good info Evan. Any info on the 3MA? I know it's longer.

Hey Rory,

I do not have access to a 3MA arm.

My best guess is it would have issues with the supports as they run under the arm to stiffer (like the TZ of same era). The 2MA frame is also one of the most narrow aluminum spar frames you will find so I suspect 3MA mounting is wider. The RS is much bigger for instance. Rear wheel is likely also quite a bit wider. The 2MA was a bit of an oddity in size. This is all a big guess though!

I would be curious to have a measure of yours. I could bring over the 2MA spare arm I have sometime when it turns nasty! Looks like the snow will fly tomorrow!

I would concur with Evan on the 3MA arm, under braced for reverse cylinder pipes might be an issue. My 3MA frame is about 10mm wider in the swingarm pivot than an RZ.

I plan on installing the 3MA on an RZ/RD Frankenstein. Pipes under the seat, reverse cylinder RD engine in an RZ frame. It will be a fun build.
