Downtime - new dedicated server

#1 Post by hybrid » Wed Apr 10, 2013 8:40 pm

There is going to be some downtime in the next 8 hours while we migrate to a new server.

This time it's dedicated to our needs so we are not at the beck and call of anybody except the data centre that the server sits in, so we should have a much better service. It's hosted in Canada as well rather than Australia, so you North American folk may see slight performance improvement.

I need to take the site down so that there are no changes to the old database while the transfer to the new server happens.

Once again, HUGE thanks and tip of the helmet to Jeff (hybrid) for getting it all handled. :smt023

We are controlling our own destiny now, and I like it!

Jeff is deep into a Master's degree program in IT right now, so where he finds the time, I don't know, but I bet he could do all this in his sleep (and I wouldn't doubt he did!!) :smt015 :smt024 :smt029

I'm having a difficult time getting onto the site now. Takes forever to get in, if I get in, and then forever to open anything. I can see my PMs, but can't reply to any of them. Just get blank pages that go nowhere. Lots of sitting and waiting, but nothing happening. The 500 side is no better. Lots of waiting but no access. I can navigate the rest of the interweb just fine, but the forum is a huge problem now. It was working fine before the move but now it's frustrating.

Where are you based? I would say its a network issue between you and the new data center.

Ontario, Canada. Took me 20 minutes to get on and send this reply. Beyond frustrating.

Every other site I go to is working normally. Only this forum and the 500 side aren't working properly.

John, are you using a PC or Mac? See about flushing your cache, possible DNS problems. Try DNS 8.8.8.8 and see if that is better.

Try a traceroute to the server if you know how and paste the results. Its probably something your ISP can fix
