Plugging the connection tube on the 350YPVS dramatically richens the idle mixture.
With the Mikuni TM30-6 you need an idle jet around 30-35. Same bike needed a 17.5 idle jet after plugging.

While Barlow found a power increase w/boost bottle most of what I felt was an increase in driveability. That soft area 3-5K RPM where the stumble shows up sans airbox was much cleaner and a smooth transition into the powerband evident. Just like a good advance curve and careful jetting it's another contributor to a good rideable tune. To me it's the difference between "it runs" and "it rips."
I don't know about the boost bottle but I can say for sure that 6mm reed spacers greatly smooth the midrange hole in the power delivery. My bike had the normal crap stumble at 6000 rpm and the reed spacer blocks completely eliminated that. The motor will pull smoothly right across 6000 rpm in top gear.

I also run a boost bottle but I can't say for sure what effect that has on the smoothness of the power delivery, nor if it produces more or less power.

I played with a pair of DT175 boost bottles on my racer back in the '80s. It seemed to help with bottom-end at some tracks but I didn't pursue it as I was chasing more upper mid-range at the time...

Way back I found the boost bottle to smooth the 6k flat spot. That was my first RZ. Haven't run one since.

It leans out your mixture until your motor melts down. Then you rebuild it with all of the trick parts, porting etc until you gain the performance that you were looking for originally.
