Will probably be a few days until I read the MRI reports.

I guess I'm more fucked up than I thought.

Doc gave me 50 double Percocets and another month off work.

Saw the neurosurgeon yesterday.

Now in a Miami J collar 24/7 FOR 6 WEEKS.

Image

I asked him point blank - the injury was over a month ago, is this going to help after all this time?

He might be covering his ass because no one from Neuro came to see me when I was in the hospital.

I looked at the actual MRI. I think there's a chance I can ride again. Otherwise I could never tolerate this hard collar. (It's fucking triple digit weather right now.)

And my neck hurts worse than ever with this damned collar on! :smt012

Man, that is rough, but you can handle 6 weeks. Next time you see a pregnant woman ask yourself if you would rather have the last 6 weeks of that. If you need some inspiration look up Ian Hutchinson and what he went through to recover from his leg injury in 2010 after sweeping the IOM. Amazing story. Good luck with a positive outcome!

I asked him point blank - the injury was over a month ago, is this going to help after all this time? 30 days healing into a average 90 day healing period? WTF

He might be covering his ass because no one from Neuro came to see me when I was in the hospital. Time to contact a lawyer..just sayin, speaking from alot of experience with fucked up know it all doctors..you know what I'm talkin about!

I have some degenerative bones in my neck. I wear a Leatt in the dirt and am looking into their street brace. Has anyone tried this thing out or is it only for track use? I use the brace 100% now on the dirt and have used it in one crash and it worked perfectly. It took a while to get used to the restrictive movement but if it keeps my neck from breaking I can live with it.

Haven't been able to work on bikes for over a week. :smt012

I decided to go back to work. I could have stayed off longer, or even got permanent disability if I wanted to. I just don't want to go out like that.

Still in a lot of pain. Had to stop all pain meds, sleeping meds, even beer. I want nothing to cloud my judgement while I'm getting back to work. If I make a mistake, it's because I've been off for so long - not because there are still drugs in my system - and drug testing is a possibility.

Been back at work since last Wednesday (8 days ago). Have to prove myself before they will let me back on my shift. It's been brutal. I've done okay at work, but it's harder than I thought it would be.

Have finished parts at the machine shop, but can't get them. Machine shop has been closing early, because the main dude had a TURP surgery. Also need to take in more parts for machining.

Hopefully, next week, things will be getting back to normal. Actually excited, because my bike projects are coming together. Can't wait to get back at it!

I'm now wearing a Leatt 6.5 GPX carbon. On the street.

From the looks I get, pretty much no one has ever seen anything like it. :smt104

Bad news is, my neck is so fucked up, I can't adjust the Leatt properly. Will need to make a custom bumper for the back, because my head/neck hardly extends.

Hi Smoker,

Sorry to hear, hope you will recover quickly. If you have a concussion, take it very seriously. No alcohol, no computer, no reading, no driving, complete physical and neurological rest for 1-2 weeks, then increase load very gradually.

I've had a concussion last December and received bad recommendations from doctor (he was not knowledgeable of concussions) and my state went down badly after the accident until I saw a physio and sport doctor, then I got the right info and I started improving. Unfortunately, with concussions, its eighter 1 month or very long to recover. I am on the long road (still today). All that to say, careful with concussions.

Fox makes a very lightweight carbon fiber & kevlar helmet. Even went so far as to make the chinstrap D loop out of titanium. Got mine for about $300. Might be worth looking into for you if you need a lightweight helmet.

And is there such a thing as a good crash?
Highsided my CR at low speed and came down right on my hip. Still hurts like hell.

If we are going to dirtbike crashes, I fell over at a stop and landed across a smallish log, right on my thigh. Prob would have hurt even without the 250 lb dirtbike on top of me. Got the mother of all charlie-horse out of it. Hurt like hell. :smt005

I like to think all crashes are bad. Still try hard to avoid them. Went down twice on my RD/LC in 9 seasons. My bad one was in an 80mph corner doing about 100m'sph on my TZ at Shannonville Motorsport Park. That one hurt. Limped for 3 months. My $h!t fit was a tank slapper, where Tim Horton was killed on the QEW in southern Ontario, doing about 140kph on my RZ500. If there was ever a time I thought I'd $h!t myself, that was it.
