Kpke,

Here's the pics you you requested. For the lower one I used a piece of 2"x2"x 1/8" angle. I then cut, trimmed, and drilled holes for mounting.

For the top side I used some 3/4"x 1/8" Aluminum flat bar. I also had to bend about a 1" offset to drop down to the original mounting points.
I used the holes in the top triple clamp that are just to the inside of the fork tubes.

Image

This one I had to notch to fit around my key ignition housing.

Hope this helps,
Charlie

Thanks Charlie. :smt023

Unfortunately I can't see the pics here at work. They block some of the photo hosting websites. :smt012

I will look at them this evening.

Hi Larry,
I went out and measured from the top of the fork tube down past the bottom to the ground. It's about 1/2" shorter than the stock setup. So it's pretty darn close when you take into account that the newer wheel and tire is about 2" smaller in diameter than the stock one.

Hope that helps you. :smt023

Thanks Jim,
The pipes bolted right up. I did have to alter the one bracket by the shifter only because I had to space my footpeg brackets out a bit to clear the RGV swingarm on the rear. I also had to trim some on the lower fairing to clear the pipes. And the center stand had to be removed too.

Thanks Charlie.. Im really liking the Gp pipes .my concern has been fitment with the none stock swing arm . the OEM rearset hit the chain side swinger (VJ23) but clutch side seems to clear.i have a sv650 rear rimm (500 cushdrive), 10mm offset sprcket havnt got the chain on yet to check my spacers.
im hooked on these http://www.rzrd500.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9786" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Jim,
Sounds like I've got the same rear end setup you have. (VJ23, SV650 wheel, GS 500 cush, and a 10mm offset sprocket)
I ended up spacing out the footpeg brackets 5/8" on the shifter side, and 1/2" on the brake side to clear the swingarm.

Fantastic work for a three month job. I couldn´t get my parts together in that time.

I´m about to do something like this and i have a couple of questions before machining away :smt001

I have a v21 sving arm (the banana one) and a sv650 wheel and rear brake system.
The new bearings in the wheel i have and the rear brake hanger is machined for the bigger axle.
Can you machine a SV650 cush drive to fit like a gs500 do?
Is 10 mm offset front sprocket standard for this mod and does the chain line up with the chain slider on the sving arm that way?

Glad for some answers and sorry about the high jack :smt002

Thanks Aaron for posting that. I've been meaning to, but never got around to it.

Rallykay,
The SV650 and the GS500 cush drives are identical, except for the GS500 cush is about 3/4" narrower. So the chain will have about 1/8" clearance with a 150 series tire on the SV rim. It will also line up with the swingarm slider and the 10mm offset sprocket once you make the spacers between the wheel and the inside of the swingarm.
I can look through my notes to see how thick my spacers were, but your VJ 21 may be slightly different. I used the SV axle (17mm) on mine so I machined the wheel spacers with bushings that fit into the swingarm which is made for a RGV axle (20mm).

Hope that helps. Good luck on your build.....it's worth it!! :smt023

Well, I got about 300 miles on the bike then had a rod bearing start knocking bad. So I sent Roger @ Wicked a few emails and decided to order up one of the Athena 421 kits. My only problem was I really wanted to have one of the billet heads he had talked about building for the Athena cylinders. That was the longest 2 months of my life waiting for it!! But it was worth the wait.... it's a thing of beauty!!

I painted the cylinders to keep it as close to the stock appearance as possible. And I like the look.

Got the motor all back together. With a set of the Vforce 4 reeds.

Image

I installed one of Wickeds HiFlo water pump impellers and added a R6 fan to the radiator with a fan controller. Which works great!! I've been riding in 90 degree weather in traffic and it just gets past the normal line when the fan kicks on and starts to drop back down to normal.

Image

The bike is running great!! I'm running the stock carbs for now. So I went rich on all the circuits, then slowly leaned it back out just to be safe.
The power doesn't really hit till about 7000 rpm (6000 before with PV's) But it pulls like crazy all the way to 10500 rpm!!!
It's a blast to ride now :smt003

Here's a short video of it running. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pclf14Dn ... ho3lAH2rog

I hope to have some onboard video soon.
