nikfubar wrote:Yeah I know what you mean it's the pipes, cables & wiring that make it look messy. I was thinking of going premix to do away with oil tank, 3 pipes & a cable but then couldn't be bothered with the hassle :smt012 I managed to hide the rear calliper brake line by installing it inside the swing arm & did away with the rear brake reservoir & hose by fitting a billet one directly to the master cylinder.

my brake line will be inside the swinger as well and I will use the small kx caliper underslung so it isnt as visible. GOing towait on my new rear to show up though to make sure it all fits to that wheel setup, should but I dont want to do anymore work twice tha I already am.

You made the right decision on the wheels! They have such an impact on the look of the bike, they dictate the look more than anything, If you finish off that bike like it looks like your doing, its going to be one of the all time great RZ hybrids, or customs..its has all the potential and ingredients to be a absolute utter showstopper as well as a drivable work of art

Don't you NOT finish that thing :smt018

I've always liked the Hawk and saw an RZ350 hybrid one years back and thought it would be a great project. You've certainly done the idea proud. I applaud your wheel choice, never been a big fan of the 'egg beater'.

Brian I just joined this forum the other day, glad to see your bike here. It is very very nice and I too can't wait to see it done. I am leaving mine as stock as I can and just ride it.

Havent updated lately but there hasn't been a ton of changes, cranked on it last night for about 4 hours though.

sorry the pictures suck but it was after midnight and I wanted to go to bed but figured it needed an update.
If we could only buy time.

I got my new rear wheel all mounted, brembo rear caliper mounted.
Rear brake line ran through the swingarm, still need to get my rear rotor machined for weight reduction and more importantly looks. :smt003

got the rear brake reservoir completed, required a drill and tap into the frame for a clamp to hold it properly in place.
Worked on some of the wiring getting it shortened and tied up better.
some I left long as I think I want to start it first to make sure things are where I want them, then make the final cut.

got the intake and air filter sorted. the 90 degree elbows do go a bit oval to make the bend but the volume should still be the same, its tight in there.

Also got my new ignition switch keyed and mounted.
Going to pick up some things from the bike shop today, gear oil, new drain bolt washer, some fuel line and a new style fuse holder to upgrade from glass fuses.

also need some radiator hoses and am going to see if I can get my Vapor mounted and then it might be time to kick it over and see if it will run again.
This will be the first time running in this chassis. Its not that far out really.

If things go right maybe I can make smoke this weekend.
Video will be posted if it happens.

here are some pictures to show some updates.

I think this wheel is just damn sexy, no matter the cost it was worth it.

Brake reservoir.
you can see where the brake line goes into the grommet in the swingarm.
Hint for cutting perfect holes into rubber, use a spent .22,9mm, .40 45 etc shell as a punch, they work perfect for this.

Wohouuu!
It is looking so beautiful, never thought an affair between Yamaha and Honda (and now Ducati threesome) would come along in such a nice way!

Just like a ultra hot woman teasingly slowly undressing....it will be worth the wait :smt023

When I was attempting the HAWK rear swingarm conversion , I to hated the stock wheel...GOD AWFUL UGLY!. I was reaseaching everything VFR swaps etc.. Needless to say I never ended up doing it , wrong arm for the RZ frame. I had it on Craigslidst for awile, no takers so into the trash dumpster it went after a deacde...lol

That bike is looking devilishly ...wicked :smt077 Slingers exhaust looks great, I could careless if its down on power ..or not. It looks too dammed good

Thanks guys, I think it really is starting to come together.
and yes that is a G wheel kit. Some fine nice work by guys out there in the bike world.
This old RZ: I agree the pipes look unreal and the potential loss in power is worth the look that it has acheived.
Even more so with that forged Marchi on there.

headed to the garage finally today, waaay later than I wanted.
Hoping to get moving.
Added oil last night and hoping to fill with some water soon, a few more wires need connected but I am expecting to kick it over today........... cant wait to hear it run.

Wonderfully nice bitches in Co, oh wait he said beaches.
True there arent many to speak of but maybe someday I will load it in a trailer and haul it to the Ca coast for a trip up Hwy 1 to Laguna to watch some racing.
Would be a good place to ride it.

I spent some time in the garage yesterday, and things progressed with it now holding water, found a hose with a crack in it, but got that fixed.

And as some may have seen in the Electrical section I fried my CDI.
Stupid mistake, but what would a custom project be without some costly mistakes? It wouldnt be.

So I am on the search for a new cdi and have decided to go with a battery instead of the cap/batt eliminator.

the good news is that I got an updated picture and was reminded of how small this bike is. It has been up on the stand for so long I forgot.
it pushes around like a 125 MX bike even with oil and water in it.
It is pretty dang light I think, excited to get it finished and get an actual wet weight, full of all fluids ready to ride.

here is the updated picture
Oh and the final paint will be either the Honda Hawk red( I think it is actually called italian red) or Ducati red.
The logo on the tank will be bright white as well as the logo on the tail.
Tank logo will be honda wing but the "wings" will be tuning forks.
and the tail will say GTZ 350

Looking at this picture I think I need either a color match or carbon hugger for the rear wheel. What do you guys think?
