Did you choose that location to balance the look from side to side, matching the petcock hole?

That's a tough chore. Good luck with it. I know you'll figure it out.

Shaved the top of the shock with a belt sander and file, because it was too tall.

Image

Made stainless 12mm to 10mm collars and spacers for the top. Larger OD for the nut.

Image

Pressed out the lower bearing and pressed in bronze bushings for the bottom.

Looks like it's going to work. Will finish up when the new hardware arrives.

Waiting on basic stainless hardware for the shock, then I'll probably rebuild the carbs.

Really just wanted to say, I've been on the 500 website, working hard on that bike project. No particular reason, other than I'm getting lots of help at the moment. Don't want you guys to think I'm not working on bike stuff. I want the projects done, but in no particular order. If I take a turn for the worse, the urn project will be the most important.

I know for sure, some guys on this site don't follow the 500 site. 'Nuff said. Will be back on this side more, soon! :smt001

Block off plate for switching from mechanical tach to electrical tach.

Had this same part custom made in the past for another project. Would prefer no logos/emblems. Not worth the money for this bike, though.

you could just mill the top off and re anodise it I guess, but yeah, it will cost a bit for something you wont really see... though you'd know it was done etc. Like me I just know you were the guy who painted the seats when building those plastic model kits before sticking the painted pilot on it and closing the whole lot in with a misty looking canopy lol

I painted the seats with semi-gloss black, and added a home made light texture - to look more like the vinyl seats of the early '70s. :smt023

Then... I blew them up with firecrackers.

When I ride this bike, I'll think of you, Jan.

Better get some more work done on this bike.

Got a stainless bolt with the correct shaft length for the shock and cut the threads down by hand.

Image

Messed up the new fender. Cut it for clearance with the new shock. Forgot to leave on the right side mounting tab.

Cleaned up the old fender and cut it properly.
