Re: Low Budget Purple Project
THIS THREAD SUCKS
........Without Pictures.
So, a big Thank You to Photobucket. Keep up the good work.
Photobucket claims to have 15 million users.
If we all paid for their $400, Top of the Line, Bend Over and Take It Plan, they’d make $ 6 Billion a year.
Thanks, but I think I’ll pass. So now what? How do I post pictures in my thread?
I read some posts and people have recommended the following:
- Imgur
- Dropbox
- Postimage
- Flickr
I’ve got over 2000 pictures on Photobucket, and 800 to 1000 of them are for this thread.
I’m not keen on putting them all on another free hosting site, because I’m afraid that in 4 or 5 years, (after I’ve uploaded an additional 1000 pics),
they’ll change their policy and want to charge me more than Photobucket.
JonW said that you can host your own pictures if you have a website, and as far as I know he’s doing that.
Umm. We have a website.
I must confess that I know very little about how the Internet works.
I can use a computer pretty good and I’m a master at Google searches. I can find anything.
But I know nothing about how that information instantly gets to my computer from the other side of the world.
So I have some questions about hosting pictures, and I posted them in this thread.

Re: Low Budget Purple Project
I do indeed host them on my own site, just made a folder called photos and then FTP (drag n drop) the pics over, then use the web addy of the pic with the IMG and /IMG tags, ie both between [] one at each end. 2 Easi...

What browser are you using? If its Firefox or Chrome there is a Hot Fix for both. Apply it and you will be able to see your pics.
It has to be applied to the persons PC viewing the pics.

Re: Low Budget Purple Project
How come the Photobucket pics at the beginning of the thread are visible, but not the ones at the end of the thread?
I do see that the visible pic posts have been edited. Did you fix those yourself?
I fixed some of mine, but like you, I have thousands.

South_Oz, you rock! I just installed the Firefox extension and voila, pictures. Thanks for sharing that.
Re: Low Budget Purple Project
Some of the Pb photos do show, sometimes you get 1 or 2 in a thread of say 10-15, other days you get none. its variable and been like that from the start of when they stopped allowing use of them.Smoker wrote:How come the Photobucket pics at the beginning of the thread are visible, but not the ones at the end of the thread?

Re: Low Budget Purple Project
I got my parts back from the machine shop.
For the EGT gauge bracket, they cut down 2 stand-offs from 1” to ¾”. Then drilled and tapped 2 holes in the triple clamp.
For the bracket to clamp the remote reservoir line on the Ohlins shock, they welded 3 pieces of aluminum together.
They charged me $100 Can ($77 US) for everything and told me not to bring in any more projects that looked like the clamp for the remote reservoir line.
Apparently, it’s difficult to weld a really small piece of aluminum to a much larger piece of aluminum.
The large piece acts as a heatsink. It’s barely getting warm, when the small piece is already melting.
I still need to drill some mounting holes and polish up the parts before they can be installed.

Re: Low Budget Purple Project
Alloy welding is hard enough at the best of times when dealing with small parts. Unlike steel, tig'ing alloy tends to not go when you point it, rather the arc goes where it wants. welding into corners is, er, fun...
When I was trying to repair an LC left side engine case cover I heated the cover and the small broken part up with MAPP gas, the cover stayed pretty cool, the small part melted. sigh.
Anyway, C$100 is great for what you had done. Good shop.

Re: Low Budget Purple Project
A few years ago, I destroyed an RD350LC reed block spacer by filing it down to fit an RZ reed block.
Then I horrified a couple of forum members by cutting it up and using the engraved side to make a key fob.
Last month I decided to use the other engraved side of the spacer and make a bracket to secure the remote reservoir line on the Ohlins shock.
After getting the bracket back from the machine shop, I drilled a mounting hole and gave it a quick polish.

Finally! Nice to know you're back at the bike Steve.
I was in at Universal today. Obviously, your day off. I picked up some stuff I left behind.

Re: Low Budget Purple Project
So, I spent $50 of my hard earned money, and put in 10 hours of my time, to cut, file, sand, and polish, a one of a kind bracket,
and all I get is 1 atta-boy from my friend in Australia.
Wow, this is a tough crowd to please.
So, what’s wrong with my new part?
Is it too small?
Is it too cheap?
Is it not shiny enough?
I suppose the main reason that nobobdy commented is because it's a Mickey Mouse little part that serves no real pupose,
and as such it doesn't merrit much of a discussion.
You folks are looking for something with a little more bling.
OK. Fine. I can do bling.
Check out these parts.
