But whenever I had to outsource stuff like yours, I had quite similar experiences.
You exactly have in mind what you need, make a drawing, explain it a thousand times to the dude in charge and they still manage to do it differently!
Unfortunately it's a fact that if many of the guys were smart enough they'd run their own business since long. But as they're not you sometimes have to explain like you'd do for kids and then they think you're an arrogant a...hole.
In some cases real stupidity is the problem, but mostly just lack of motivation and interest.
^^^^very true.. as a machinist i feel your pain. i always want a paper trail to go back to for exactly this reason.

Had a heart to heart talk at the machine shop today. The machinist admitted it was his fault, so I said I would pay double, or whatever he wants, and I think both of us feel a lot better. I don't think he'll actually charge me double, but whatever. Been using that shop for maybe 10 years and I consider them friends.

I made some new drawings, so hopefully things will go right.

If the shop doesn't charge me for it, they keep it.

If I have to pay for it, I get it.

The money I paid for the titanium is lost.

Either way, the part will end up in the trash can. :smt009

Hang it on the wall in the garage with things like half melted pistons and pipes you don't use anymore.

Every RD rider has this one shelf reserved for the old pistons (and these are just the highlights...)

Checked in with the machine shop again this AM.

Titanium bar is still untouched.

No telling when the titanium adapter will be done.

This is the reason why my projects take so long. I don't have the machine tools to make these parts myself. No choice but to wait.

In the mean time, trying to figure out the custom radiator.

Just called the machine shop (again).

No progress at all on the titanium part.

Every time I call, the machinist says he's ready to start on it.

Sounds like a tank I am having welded. It has been a week away from being done for 6 months! Must get annoying. I suppose there is a reason you stick with the same machinist. Hope things start moving for you soon!

Finally have the titanium bracket for the exhaust tips.

And it is damn sexy.

If I could post pics, I'd give you a peek at it. [smilie=dunno.gif]

I find the easiest way is to open with Paint, click resize, and enter the number (% percentage) you want to resize to. Save the image and check the properties to attain file size.

I don't have Paint. Seems that the photo editor I have won't resize the pics.

That can be a problem if you aren't running a Windows computer. If you do have a Windows based computer, you should have MS Paint as it is included.
