The cheapo stainless used by the japs for caliper pistons does rust in the unpolished hollow area that faces the brake pad. It doesn't matter but it looks like crap when you are working on them. The area exposed to brake dust dirt etc usually cleans up unless it was nicked. If the polished surface get nicked it will rust as well. Much like a fork tube.
Thanks! Yeah they are Renthals but I can't tell which model. They make like 7 or 8 different street versions: Ultra Low, Low, Medium, High, and a few more. Guess I can try to measure the originals to get close.
I'm not sure - maybe that was a Canada only thing because they had 2-piston calipers? These appear to be chrome plated steel and get rusted out very easily.
