TZR250 frame and parts just found. What next???

#1 Post by Redline Junkie » Sun Jan 29, 2017 5:43 pm

Well, I had a line on this stuff for about 6 months locally, 30 min from my house. I picked up an RZ and the seller said his friend had some TZR250 parts. The guys said the fellow had a frame but used the swing arm and front end and rims on an LC project. The TZR was an import from Japan and had no papers.

Anyway, I finally got a hold of the guy and he was looking from a RZ350 bottom for a 421 project. So I dug in the man Cave and came up with enough parts to build a complete bottom and made the trade today.

The frame is nice, pipes are ok and some of the plastics are junk and some are in good condition. I should be able to make some of them work with some repairs. I need to find lots of other stuff for sure but a good start.

I think I will plan to drop in a RZ350 motor with R1 front end and Ali FZ600 Swingarm with SV650 rim.

So many ideas and not enough time or money. At least I have all the stuff to get it into a roller already and a built 350 motor awaiting a frame!

Nice score! Dberry went down this path, went for a ride with him this summer, his bike goes and handles very well!

Slinger did his cradle and pipes, hopefully he's good and close to you?

good luck with your build.

Nice find. Where's all the rust stain come from on an aluminum frame?

The Rust on the frame appears to be old gas that must have leaked out of the tank at one point. I have no tank for the frame but would love to find one if anyone has a spare.

I guess the thing I was considering was do I do the 350 YPVS motor mod or find a 250 motor, like Evan Did. That is why I had what next in the title. I'm leaning to the 350 route as I have several motors for the RZ's and only a box of bottom end parts for the 250!

I have a spare set of barrels if you need some. No head though. That 250 motor is very similar to the RZ just with some modern upgrades and case induction. If you have issues with your crank the parts can be had at Yambits for reasonable prices.

Very small and cool bike compared to the RZ. basically a 2/3 model.

I can't see it being too difficult to add the 350 motor although it will be tight to the frame if it sits that high.

Did I see it has an import title? If you have no paperwork you will likely have to go the home built title route. I am likely going to have to do the same for another project but my TZR is a true Cdn bike.

Depending on how aggressive you like the riding position, getting some raising links would likely be a good idea. Possibly next on my list. They can be found on the bay.

Any questions you have assembling the box of parts, let me know.

Hey Evan

Thanks, I will let you know if I go with the 250 motor, but I don't have much to work with in that department. I should be able to get a title as I have done it for 2 RZ frames by getting the police to run the vin to see that is not stolen and they sign a Gov form stating the VIN is clean and that allows me to get an ownership in my name. The police will come right to your house to check the VIN and sign the form!

I will try to get the title before I do anything.
