Ask any championship AMA/WSBK/Endurance etc...crewcheif, and that question will be part of the answer👌

Great question, back in my undergrad there was a chapter on "balancing of rotation masses" in design of machines course. From what I can remember a good example is having an unbalanced wheel on a car that cause vibration at a particular speed of rotation.

That rad looks great, hopefully I will be starting a similar project soon, is there plenty of clearance with fairing on?

Give it some 2 cm additional clearance as the tire will grow at speed and the fork will flex under braking!
And don't ask why I happen to know that.

No it does not matter. You are not dealing with high end racing stuff compared to stated above. There is up to a mm in head clearance range accounted for in the additional squish included in these motors. Do you think there is any chance they checked cranks and rods down to the gram? No, no chance in ever.

A properly balanced engine will run smoother and may last slightly longer but you are dealing with such marginal amounts over the life of a motor it is NOT MATERIAL.

It does feel nice to get things as near to perfect as possible when building.

Your build is looking great. I am jealous! High end components I wish I had on my more budget RS350 build..

Sadly the nsr250 radiator was a bit wide and rubbing against the body work. Also the height was longer and header pipes angle was not ideal. So switched to rgv250 radiator.
This one looks promising and the plumbing looks easier.

It's all good, is what it is, Toomey is assembling your motor and matching components down to the gram, and your crankwork, is about as good as it gets.

Your motor is being assembled basiclly by a Nationall championship /GP level engineer , Whom has 100s of titles and was a winner of the Daytona 500, in addition contracted by Yamaha and Honda HRC/HSC as engineer/tuner alongside Erv Kanemoto for Freddie Specer and has tuned/engineered for many others Ballingtion ,Rainey and Bubba Shobert and Gene Romero.
Like the famed builder Tony Scott did for the Honda RC30s balancing ,/ matching every single part of a motor, makes a superior performer and championship level engine. Guys like these and Stewart and Ed and other perfectionists... make even factory race bikes even more reiable and faster, It's seperates them from the boys.
One reason progress is slow.... these guys are not spring chickens anymore...your lucky to even get folks like them to do work.
I've keeping my fingers crossed & got a similar project being hatched soon ....I hope? By a gentelnman with a similar pedegriee. Hopefully it works out, I can't wait to find out details, hopefully in a couple weeks I'll have some insight.
Does a perfect motor really matter? Perhaps not to a non championship type rider, or enthusiast but it's cool bragging rights and kinda fun to have that level of work none the less,
Under racing conditions it's more powerful & reliable, if intended for a track day street bike, could likley be the last motor you'll never build for her, depending upon your level of abuse. I'm assuming it's not a full tilt race motor, single ring etc...
Gary @ Spec 2 another talented engineer many moons ago, built me a pretty strong 375cc RZ motor that lasted 20,000+ hard street miles...bottom line is your getting some of the best craftwork in your motor you can buy.
Great build keep the details coming.

Ed was not happy with the engine mounting bracket locations, so he went ahead and welded new ones to get it right.

New MUPO rear shock installed

A custom aluminum subframe is being made to replace the heavy steel one

Front shocks rebuilt at ohlins Hendersonville and back on the bike

Front calipers rebuild with new seals and pistons.

Carbon fiber end can and custom pipes will be finished soon.

It's all coming together we'll

Can't wait to hear itImageImageImageImageImageImageImage
