Thanks Gord. Nothing like a great burger.
Read about the accident earlier. Wow! I always feared that that could happen when my kids were young. We were rear ended once. Nothing like your experience.
I'd love to ride out your way on the RZ one day. Have to build it first. Just bought it this year and it needs TLC. Build thread to follow.

As for the brakes, I split them and got them down to bare metal. Very messy work, but glad to put that feather in my cap. I thought they were meant to be gold as there was Gold paint on them.So I painted them in VHT and baked them. This stuff won't last I can tell already, so powder coating in the future. The Gold might trip me up next year when I try for collector plates as its not concourse.

The brake lines are stainless steel Galfers with carbon fiber colored coating. Red Banjo bolts. My Husqy has red banjos and I thought it might look cool....but again not concourse.

Changed all the seals and put in YAMbits stainless steel pistons in the rear cliper. They fit great and are not leaking. Yambits can be touch and go. This one was a go at half the price of whats out there. All told the Triumph CALIPER conversion is way cheaper. but now I know how to rebuild brake caliperes

see my brakes were Gold when I got them.

A few more Items I restored or resourced. As most fuse boxes go mine was par for the course. I used yambits to get this one. Again their parts are hit and miss. seems the more you pay the better the quality. I'm really bad at electrical systems, a complete novice. So I was very happy when the ypvs cycled ,and the lights worked when I turned the ignition switch. Huge boost of confidence.

Not OEM but hey it's a learning process and now at least if the pieces fail I know how to fix or replace them.
When I do the bottom end it'll be OEM parts. Glad I learned this before I did any seals or bearings. Extra Yamaha fork seals came with the bike so I used those. For the most part the "BITS" I used are sufficient for the project I'm on.

Refinished the switch boxes. Looking more like JonW's all the time. well sort of.
A before and after of the switches, controls, and master cylinder. The master cylinder is off a fzr600. but I used the rz cover as the two aren't the same.

heehee, it does indeed look very much like mine still, I stacked my old bodywork on my lovely clean parts and it looks awful right now, hmm...

Cheers Jon, except you Aussies got a cooler paint job than us here in Canada on the 85.
I've often thought I should get the speed block decals that came stock in Australia. We got boring stripes. At any rate if we both do it by the book they will be totally different looking bikes.

I hear that but why not paint and decal it how you want? Mark at RDDecals did my decals, so you can get local supply :)

I just might, I've really thought about it. Thats the coolest cambo, its got everything I like.Red frame, speed blocks, full fairing, and still retaining the alloy rim detail. I guess I could have two fairing sets?but then there is the tank paint?

seems excessive to have two whole sets (incl tank), maybe just pick the one you like best, its not like youre doing it to sell it :)

Hard call, might just go with what I like. Yep 2 tanks are out of the question. I hope to aquire a blue and yellow tank in the future and the rest of the bike that goes with it. Not this year.
I'm gonna search photos for the Aussie model. Food for thought. And at the end of the day its still rzed decals not an rd decals.

Well, I did think long and hard on the possibility of ordering up the Australian decals. Mostly just because it is one of my favourites. In the end this restoration is taking way to long so.I'll take the path of least resistance. My plastics are off a 1985 F1 from Europe and are the same color scheme as the Canadian issue 85. My belly pan is already red, the mid panels already have the red stripe and silky white, the top fairing is already stormy red and just needs silky white on the bottom half and decals. So its the Canadian decals I'm ordering. I want to get started on my solo cowl
