Now, on with the front end. Measurements, drawings, and lathe work funtime. This required some machining of the steering stem to accommodate the dimensions of the roller bearings and the height of the headstock as well.
Voila! Fully adjustable GSXR front end with DLC and radial calipers with Galfer lines. Solid and modern. No regrets!

Then, mount the rear brake reservoir and the rearsets. These rearsets were once olive green of all hideous colors, so I shot them with black and then put a coat of clear. You can see the original color of the brake lever. Not as nice as some other offerings, but they came with the donor bike. Maybe one day I will upgrade. I like the ones Tyga sells.

Slap on a back wheel... Now, it is a rolling chassis... Kinda... It is from the eighties, but with fully adjustable suspension and unbelievable brakes.

Now for the best part---Engine porn! This is the part that separates our bikes from those others. 2T forever, 4T never!!!!!!!!!
I blasted the engine parts and painted the cases and head with cobalt blue firemist followed by a couple coats of clear. BTW, this project uses Ti fasteners wherever possible along with a few stainless and a few aluminum fasteners. It is hard to find every style/size fastener in Ti.

Now to put the engine in place...
Add an all aluminum side stand. I found this one to be weak, so I built another one with more strength. The bracket was too thin so I used 1/2" plate and the stand bent below the spring mount because it is hollow tubing. The new one is solid with milled out sections. Sorry, no pics of the upgrade at this time.
Update: I have changed the rear seat to a more modern one. Now it is a lot lighter and it gives it a different look though the paint work is matching. BTW, the numbers are painted on--they are not stickers. Sorry, no pics of the new seat.
Add steering damper. This came with the donor bike, but required a different mount for the USD forks.

I like to make things myself. I enjoy it, I have the skill set, and it saves money. All valid reasons.
There is something special about something you make yourself. I have one assistant on this project and working with someone else is usually more fun than working alone. He and I made these pipes just like everything else on this project, but the silencers are from TZMike... Can't beat his stuff!!!

It's looking good. One thing that interests me is the height of the output shaft (front sprocket) compared to the swinger pin as when this has been discussed previously most people suggest the output should be level with the pin and yours is higher unless its just the angle of the photos? Interested to hear your thoughts on the placing, partly as I want to one day complete my KTMaha project and was struggling to get the motor low enough in the frame due to all the bracing in the swinger area.

JonW--I think it looks that way because the chain is not on the sprockets. I milled the back of the cases a little to get the engine as far back as possible since the RZ350 has a huge distance between the center point of the counter shaft and the rear of the cases. It is better to have the counter shaft close to the swingarm pivot. Also, when the chain is in place, it runs a straight line between the two sprockets and puts its mass lightly on the chain slider. Also, notice the chain slider on the lower cross member of the main frame. That was another factor for engine placement--just ask Vollegaaz. Toni disagrees with this, but that's ok. Perhaps there are some who think the placement is a compromise, but when all factors are considered, the placement is money. I can take pictures with the chain in place and closeups of these areas. Pictures definitely do more than words in situations like this.

Thanks mate (I dont know your name, and mate s what we call people when we dont know their name here in Aus, tho I know Americans can be confused by it LOL!), The info and any photos later would be very much appreciated. I also looked at milling material form the rear of the engine cases as there is room back there. Of course what is different from the old school road bikes like the RZ to the modern dirt machines like I was working with, is that the swingarm goes through the cases on the dirtbike, and this means the motor is further back in the frame. That helps with the location of the output shaft but I would still have had issues with the frame. I was having to look at a custom cradle that would sit under the bike, and it would have looked very odd i think.

Well spotted Jon.The 101 in suspension geometry is that the sprocket center must stay below or level with the imaginary line that crosses the wheel and pivot shafts centers with the rear bottomed out, otherwise the engine torque will severely sunk the rear and throw the handling.That's one of the penalties about this old engines.This is physics not opinions, so please don't kill the messenger.
Off course it only matters if the bike is ever put on a twisty road or race track against others, otherwise a stiff spring and getting used to hold your throttle for the straights is the ticket.It will make a heck of a wheelie popper tho

Time to add a radiator. I do not know what year it is, but it is from a Yamaha R6.
The stator shown here is not the one the bike uses. This one is an AC unit and I went with a DC unit that helps with running all the street lights.
