They wouldn't work with the 421cc engine, but I would still like to see how they would look and fit.

Probably no chance to try. :smt009
Why can't you get JL TDR pipes?

Talk to Andreas at Dingsda Racing. The best prices and easy to deal with http://members.shaw.ca/drt38/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't want to buy those pipes because they're too small for my engine. I just wanted too see how they fit.

I've decided on custom up-pipes. Just have to find out who's willing to make them. Should be much easier than my flat down-pipe design. The custom up-pipes have a couple of tight bends, but are not very different than the TDR style pipes.

Left pipe side view. The centerline of the pipes will be aligned with the frame tubes. The headers will cross over if there's enough space.

Need to make a new mock up radiator and figure out the pipe specs.

More progress on the engine cradle.

Still needs brackets for a radiator and overflow can, and slider bungs.

Isnt that just pretty! I like the tying in of the flat plates at the back, my only concern might still be strength with any bracket sitting out of the frame but youve done everything you can on that, only time will tell of course but Id be happy with what youve done. :)

Nice welding! That piece looks very clean well made. This has likely been answered but why did you cut the lower cradle off the frame smoker?

I'm using an Aprilia SXV frame, and there's no cradle at all.

I didn't think mounting the engine from above would be strong enough for hitting jumps. :smt003

Interesting to see how you go if you head down that route, exciting to have working and supercool of course.
First issue with the m-unit is it needs to be mounted vertically and sideways. Vertically is good for mounting behind a side panel, but trying to read the panel when it's sideways is never good.

Mine will be mounted horizontally, so I may not get all the functions.
It doesn't need to be vertical. Most of the installations I've seen and what I'm planning for my XV920R project is horizontal.

It's really a cool device.

Will you use the M-Button for the switchgear?
Cheers!

Well, that's V.2 - I only have V.1 which is different.

V.1 needs to be mounted on it's side for the motion detector to work. Also can't use the M-button. [smilie=dunno.gif]

Flog off the V1 perhaps Smoker and get the V2?

It's a common problem with my custom bikes.

It takes me so long to build, that some parts become outdated before I get a chance to use them.

The M-unit is pretty expensive. If I'm able to wire up the V.1 to function properly - except for the alarm - I'm okay with that. If there are other issues, then I'll have to step up to the V.2.

I know it, I have the same issue as well with mine, still cool parts tho, just perhaps not as cool as the new ones, sigh.

Haha, I have been through all the pages of your multiple builds over time but its hard to keep up. Looking good. How far are you from being done this one?

Notes on the pipes:

Need to chop the stainless tubing off the slash exhaust tips.

Image

Not sure if Toomey silencers will work, may have to make a pair. Will copy the o-ring & circlip flange in stainless, then weld a curved tube from the flange to the slash tip. May need a new bracket welded on, too.

Image

The front of the silencers will screw onto the stinger flange. I'll need a few of mandrel-bent tubes to make the stingers. The layout of the rear section seems clear. Just need tubing dimensions.

Image

Ordered more armature wire, so I can redo the mockups of the pipe bellys and headers. Looking at prefabbed and custom stainless cones. Also looking at laser cutting cones from flat stock and having someone else do the rolling.
