1989 RZ350 Faraway Blue paint

#1 Post by RZ350GUY » Wed Jan 16, 2019 12:41 am

Greetings all:

I am new to this form. I am restoring a 1989 model RZ350.
Would anyone happen to have any info on an alternate paint manufacture or the paint code for faraway blue?
Would it be possible to do paint matching at a paint dealer?
As of now its available with colourite and that would be my last resort, as its a bit pricey.
Many thanks!

regards,

Daryl

Pulled this from the web. Do not know how accurate it is

Faraway Blue is the same color as New Holland Tractor Blue from the year 2000 to present

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Thank you Sir for the welcome note and below info, much appreciated.
I checked out the New Holland Tractor blue paint and the shade is a perfect match, however it is Enamel Paint.
Would this be an issue?

While there is certainly nothing wrong with single stage paint, there are better paints out there, especially if you are applying graphics or multi colors schemes. It also depends on the level of perfection that you are shooting for. Base coat/clear coat is what peeps normally shoot for our beloved machines. This hides tape lines & decals under the clear. I would say if you are doing an overall paint job go BC/CC. Panel match, I wouldn't be afraid to shoot acrylic enamel. Plus it is cheaper to shoot.

As far as getting the paint mixed, I would think any automotive paint retailer local to you would be able to mix what you want in any formulation that you desire. You already have the info (NH Blue) and they should be able to locate the formula in their computers. Or as a last case scenario, pick a color from the chips they have on hand. Surely they have a formula for NH Blue.

Good luck & let us know how it turns out!

Thank you so much kind Sir for your guidance, certainly very good info. I will proceed with the BC/CC by contacting local paint dealers, per your recommendation as I am restoring the RZ as per the original spec, Also bought them decals from the UK etc. Will let you know how it goes. Thanks once again.
