Heat sheilding a fairing
Looking at Reflect-a-gold (up to 850F) or Reflect-a-cool (up to 400F) to protect fm radiant heat. Sold at Lordco. Thinking of covering the inside of a nose / belly fairing. Both self adhesive. Overkill?

Re: Heat sheilding a fairing
you only really need to cover the bits that may otherwise melt, I use a product i found on ebay from a bricks n mortar seller that is 3 layers and doesnt wrinkle, but yours sound good too.

Thermo-Tec is one of the best heat shieling products available. It isn't cheap, but it is very good. Self adhesive, it stays where you put it, and it's thermal properties are superior to others.
I've been using it for a few years and I'm very happy with it. No issues at all and it does what it's supposed to do, especially in the RZ500 belly pan.
Mark sells it here https://rddecals.afegraphics.com/index. ... 8&catname='" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;<b>Find Our Heat Shield Products Here</b>'

Re: Heat sheilding a fairing
John did you line the shielding inside the whole fairing or just where the pipes channel near by? Insight on this may help a bit financially speaking. The gold lining will cost $110 to cover the whole inside.

Re: Heat sheilding a fairing
I did the entire interior bottom of the 500 belly pan. I've seen far too many melted and after the recent repaint didn't want to have to worry about it. Typically they melt on the bottom and near the side radius and that area is 1-2 inches from the pipes.
I would think that if you have 3 inches it shouldn't be an issue, but maybe it is better to be safe than sorry. We don't see much written here about melting belly pans.
$119 is pricey. I've seen Reflect-a-Gold on eBay at near $20 US sq/ft and that is about double the cost of Thermo-tec

Thx John - appreciate the advise.
Re: Heat sheilding a fairing
Applied the reflecta-gold and found the adhesive backing a bit figetity due to the curves but its done. Cost $51. Hopefully its a smart investment.

I always use the aluminized adhesive backed stuff from Mopar. looks like it does better on angular surfaces and doesn't wrinkle like that. Your likely overkill there but safe is always better than destroyed paint.

Re: Heat sheilding a fairing
Is there a low cost option that anyone has found?
84 RZ350-Toomeys,SCR milled head, stk 26 carbs,300 M, 35 P, stock regrooved needles AS 2.5 turns out,stk air box,Banshee reeds Zeel non-progr CDI,TSRL Program YPVS,alum rad,R6 shock,GV emulators w/RT springs,fork brace,Shindy steering damper.
Re: Heat sheilding a fairing
stuff i found was about 1/4 the cost of the gold stuff and looks very much like it will not wrinkle and its thick enough to repel the heat with different layers of materials etc. Was on ebay but dont have a link now.
Anyway i reckon what youve got there will do the trick Scott.

Re: Heat sheilding a fairing
Ya, was a tad disappointed with the creasing occured but it does match the rims oddly. If I do another, it will be with tape strips.

Re: Heat sheilding a fairing
Mopac stuff was not cheap. Think in was 80ish Cdn and would have done a bit more than you have there.
Re: Heat sheilding a fairing
Ck'd the Mopac website - r u referring to the Cool-it thermo-tec material? Kevlar shielding looks interesting but that's overkill (up to 3000F) @ $130 US.
