Re: CDI code
Germany :
29K-50 = 83/84
51L-50 = 85
1UA-50 = 86+
Note that they're NOT plug and play if it comes to interchanging between the years. They're always a combination of rotor, stator and CDI.
Seeing bikes with codes that "don't belong there" is mainly due to stored bikes registered later (thus false year) or previous owners having "repaired" (= screwed up) things.
That's why I always recommend buying a new programmable aftermarket DC CDI. They don't give a f.. about what rotor / stator combo you have as long as the 12V part works.

Re: CDI code
Switching to the other CDIs is just a matter of switching one wire if you are going 1st gen vs 2nd gen. I had a serious long issue that turned out to be a combo of a later CDI and early stator. MK graciously provided the right info sometime in the past.
Re: CDI code
this is only true for 29k-1UA i think. the 85 has an extra wire, doable, but not as easy.evan_calgary wrote: ↑Fri Feb 22, 2019 11:19 pm Switching to the other CDIs is just a matter of switching one wire if you are going 1st gen vs 2nd gen. Re: CDI code
That exchange chart was knowledge of the 90's and based on changing parts and solely checking if engine would start.
People later reported some of the combinations not working properly over the whole rpm range which is why I don't recommend it anymore.
If there weren't cheap programmable units, I'd be tempted to investigate which combos really work.
But as you can purchase better and new unit's for not much more than a used stock one ...

Re: CDI code
This is true. The chart worked well for me and I was using a later F2 CDI with an early stator. I believe the combos that worked were included in the chart but don't totally remember.
Re: CDI code
I used a 1UA CDI with an 83 stator and it worked great.
