Electrical Gremlins - RD350LC

#1 Post by RZ350GUY » Tue Sep 10, 2019 3:05 pm

Hi folks - For the Canadian version, 1982 RD350LC, the turn flasher lights, meter lights, horn and rear stop light work on DC current/battery or do they work of the magneto generator/AC current? I know that the headlight works of the AC generator. I am restoring an LC and its all original, wiring, fuses intact etc. I am having a hard time figuring this one out. Thanks for your help.

Um, I think everything except the ignition works on the DC (battery) but I could be wrong.

Thanks for confirming that Tacky. I almost had to go pull some parts to confirm it was all 12V and to make sure I wasn't going crazy. Anything that may generate by AC is converted DC 12V asap before going anywhere.

Gentlemen: Thank you all for your help. This is my very first RD350LC, therefore I was not very familiar with the lighting etc. I had assumed that all lights work of the battery except the headlight. I re-checked the fuses and right enough the main fuse on the red wire was defective. After relacing it, the lights now work off the battery, including the brake light etc. The only light that is still non-functional is the rear parking light. I will try and sort this out in the morning and report back.

Good to hear you solved most of your problems.

Get out the multi-meter and start checking wiring runs. It is potentially that or a corroded bulb connector. Most common issue from a first look.

Some headlights/horn etc will only operate when the motorcycle is running but not case with RZ.

Thanks Evan to you and all the rest for your help.
You are spot on! The connector was corroded inside the insulation at the brake/stop light end holder! All sorted now.
