Did you get it sorted? May as well ad some thoughts.
I'm also in California...The RZs run terribly hot here in traffic even on cool nights if it's in traffic and not getting air flow...they run HOT and mine tended to also smoke excessively when hot...
As mentioned the stock radiator just barley gets it done.

Virtually any fan you can fit will work well, to you will see a very noticable difference. A couple of the vendors here were selling R-6 Fan kits, there dirt cheap on E Bay but again anything you use should work just fine.

I did the R6 fan set up with a manual switch easily within reach under the tank above the left carb. I've only used it 2 or 3 times in the last 3 years. I'm very happy I had it those times I needed it, however.

I bought a pull fan on Amazon and a on and off switch.and install the Switch in the Middle of the handle bars best $50.00 spent
