coil test

#1 Post by Juicebox » Tue May 16, 2017 2:11 pm

Could someone please tell me how to test a coil? It is not on the bike at this moment....does it need to be on the bike to test? Thank you.

Ok...I took a multimeter and stuck the probes into the pigtail coming off the coil. I had the multimeter set at 200. I got a reading of 1.5. My manual says 0.33 +/-10%. I then took one of the probes out of the pigtail and stuck it into one of the spark plug wires. The multimeter was set at 20k. I got no reading at all. Anyone know if I did this right? The readings I got say my coil is no good.....is that correct? Thank you.
