Brazilian rd350r

#1 Post by yamasukiman » Fri Aug 05, 2016 7:24 am

I have a friend looking at a swop for a Yamaha rd350r which is the twin headlight Brazilian model.
The bike has a wiring loom that has been butchered and we were wondering what this model really is.
Does it use the same electrical setup as the late rz350 or earlier model?
Can anybody help with any info?

Cheers ian.

Ian, Its basically an F2, but the loom is different (twin lights for a start) and it runs its own CDI as well. The choke is also in the fairing panel. They sold these in the uk which is where you will find parts and info. I had one from new (1995-2001), they were a good bike. I know of one other in Aus, its in Canberra.

Different heads, Y-3 for one thing. Believe you are correct Rory. Thought it was something to do with fuel quality concerns but could be totally wrong.

not 'way down', but they arrived in the uk restricted, with that removed they were fine, not 63bhp, but still 59ish.

Dont believe all what you read in the mags about the quality of these, it was more to do with the fact that the world had moved on but the RD/RZ hadnt.

I didn't realise that the Haynes manual also covered this model.

What they say:

The RD350R is manufactured in Brazil. Apart from a new fairing, twin headlights, remote operated choke and tapered
roller steering head bearings, it is otherwise the same as the RD350F2.

Model Code.No Engine/frame No.
RD350R 4CE6 4CE6-0000101(engine)
9C64CE00*N0000101 frame

The wiring diagram they use for the RD350R is the same as the F2(hopefully that is correct!!)

Jon, do you know what is different with the CDI?

Yes I reckon the wiring will be much as the F2, just has extra lights etc.

the CDI is 4CE, dunno the curve, I dont know of anyone thats ever mapped one, prob a slightly less aggressive curve for the less good fuel in Brazil?

Anyone ever seen the upper fairing for one of these for sale before or know if it is the same as one of the FZR models? Would be neat to have a dual headlight model. Just curious.

Yes, They are!
Brazilian RZ350 has 1YH cylinder head (about 23 or 25 cc and chamber with bad shape) and 31K cylinders.
It's only 55cv.
Yamaha have changed cylinder head because of our bad gasoline.

perhaps, but not 'way down', with the restrictions removed these bikes go very well.

ADDED: I dont know how much different the rd350r's sold in Brazil were to the ones in the UK, Im assuming they are the same here, but perhaps not?

Are they? I thought the uppers were all the same including the RZ500, and the only difference on the '86 up bikes was tank and tail.
I've got an FZ600 upper, birdcage and lights in the garage and it's not a direct fit with my '85 parts, the side panels are too short.
I would love to find an easier way to make it fit as I don't really like the square headlight.
