After rethinking I have another one for you.
It seems to me that the CDI 'sees' a wrong frequency from the pick up signal which means it either has difficulties with the VR Input signal or there's disturbance in the signal.

Try a 1 kOhm resistor in row either the white-red or the white-green line between pick up and CDI.
Also try to route the two cabels like a helix (like in a twisted pair cable)

Try less gap reluctor/pick up. The timing on that CDI is just based on delay, ex. like the older RDlc, not the best for a pv motor

Even if it saw the wrong signal, I'm not sure that explains retarding instead of advancing. Outside of idle, the timing is always being retarded. It's like it was accidentally programmed with negative advance instead of positive. It behaves as a stock unit should at a given rpm (at least any rpm I can steadily hold, i.e. up to 7200 rpm), but the advance has a negative sign on it. Nonetheless a twisted pair was a decent idea.

At this point it doesn't matter. It was advertised as a plug and play unit. If I have to do some work beyond that, I might as well go Zeeltronic. I started the return process on EBay and sent the unit back. I'll let you all know how smoothly the return/refund process goes with this EBay seller.

The takeaway is this: Be careful with Wieltronics. The stock appearance and direct replacement (comes with OEM style connectors) may make it appealing, but at least two forum members (myself and Srhiskx) have had the stumbling issues with the 29k-50 RZ350 replacement unit. As you see above, Srhiskx looks like he's going back to a stock unit.

Thank you all for your inputs.

It took a few reminders to the seller, but I did get my money refunded including the return postage. In other news, my Zeeltronic arrived today from Economy Cycles and I'll look to install it this weekend.

Update: my Wieltronic got worse and refused to rev past 5 grand. So, I just finished wiring in my new Zeel tonight. What a differnce! I learned the hard way, go with what works.

Yep. I soldered the Zeeltronic to the factory connector which I cut off the old CDI. I used a plastic pushing on the front mounting point and a ziptie to the rear mouthing point to fasten the Zeal unit to the electronics tray.

Exactly the same way I did mine. Very simple to wire in. I had 2 dead Yamaha cdi's, so cutting the wires was no big deal. Now I have plenty of extra wiring to move the Zeel if I want to. I saw one forum member who mounted it in the rear to access it easier for programming. That may be in the future.

Been running a Zeel on my LC with RZ engine for quite a while. Been perfect. I needed a new ig module for my Yam XT600. Borut did not have one engineered but built one for me and himself as at that time he had purchased a XT550 and used it for a test bed. My Xt has been perfect with the Zeel.

Borut knows his stuff.

Borut definitely has know how. In fact I'm surprised that by now he hasn't been invited to cater for some top notch racing team or something, I would trust him had I one.

I know this is a old thread, but I need to advise also the Wieltronic CDI do not perform as advertised! I live in Aust and have bought 3 of these units off them. one for my friends bike, and 2 for my bikes, all three units refuse to allow the bikes to rev past 6000rpm. I have written to them asking for units that work correctly and all I have received so far is a email telling me I am running the incorrect plug caps.Obviously we are running the resistered plug caps as required but after telling them this I get silence! I assume they are buying a cheaper Capacitor or not the correct value capacitor for their cdi`s and this can not accommodate the output required for higher rpm. PLEASE BE WARNED!!
