For some reason the plug on the sender was wired incorrectly :smt017 so I just connected the colours up as per the R1 wiring diagram & all's well :smt023

haha the bizarre world of used bike bits :/ Cheers m8!

Fingers crossed the Speedohealer will land soon and I can get playing. I will build up a loom from old ones I have for my ike so will totally integrate the R1 stuff into it along with the Zeel and maybe a few other bits n bobs for my 83 project... happy days.

Nice one :smt023 TBH the only part of the R1 loom that you really need is the large plug which goes into the cluster anyway, don't know about you but I like building new looms from scratch, one of my favourite parts of the build :smt003

Yep, me too! We are rare tho.... So many people are totally afraid of electrics, but really its not that hard, just takes some concentration and understanding. Yep have the upper R1 harness and cut it down, reclaimed the relay and its fitting for the oil sensor, I worked that stuff out a while back in this thread.

Ok, finally got myself a bit more sorted to do this... I now have a speedohealer.... but I seem to have a problem?

Interestingly wiring as defined (Orange to BLue/Yel, Pink to White, B to BW) with my R1 sensor didn't work to drive the speedo numbers... hmm... the gauge doesnt seem to read the sender at all.

I plugged in the R1 loom from Healtech to the SHV4 and the sensor and the Speedohealer does nothing. hmm...

I reverse the wires for +12v and pulse and the SHV4 comes alive. hmm...

Tried a Kawasaki Healtech loom (also came with the used SHV4) and now I have power to the SHV4. Put it in 't' (test mode) and it puts some speedo numbers on the dash.

Waving metal objects over the sensor and running a drill with a sprocket in it over the sender makes the 't' blink... cool.

...but, putting the SHV4 back in normal mode means no more numbers on the dash when the sensor is agitated by passing metal objects. Grr...

So it seems :
- the speedo sensor is sending out a read on things passing it.
- The SHV4 appears to work.
- The dash will read the output of the SHV4.

So why doesnt the sensor drive the speedo numbers? Any ideas?

I know UK and Euro ones can, maybe Canadian as well, but USA not. If you find an R1 online manual it will say how to convert it. Im selling my setup (it does MPH and KM) if you are looking for a full kit. Link below:

Hi, Can someone tell me what the Digikey cherry speed sensor part number is? I tried to use the part number from smurph' s original post (GS101202) but it did not register with the website. Thanks, J

I don't remember the new part number, however, I used one and it was so large and flimsy that the mounting ear broke off. I am currently using an OEM one I found on ebay. Search for R1 wiring harness. The factory one works great counting sprocket teeth. If you search this site, you will see pictures of mountings of others and of mine too. If you cannot find one on ebay I may have a spare, have to look though.

I just searched ebay USA and found one, getting scarce. Ebay item number. 111002294768 The OEM unit is more compact and has been working for about 3 years now with no problems. The Cherry sensor lasted about 1/2 mile and broke off. You will NEED a Speedohealer to correct the speed. The wire colors on the OEM are as follows, red +12V, black/yellow stripe, ground, pink is pulse output and would go to the speedohealer input. The speedohealer has a test mode that will output several different speeds to test the connection to the speed head, it will detect input to the sensor If memory serves so you know it is counting. Calibration is straight forward.
I would not wait....

I noticed that the Ebay item is an R6 sensor. Doesn't matter I guess? I also saw this one and was wondering if it would work: 301510341893? Thx.

Yes, that should work fine. I imagine most are compatible.

Pictures of my mounting method... A bit of trial and error.

Here is a pic of the sensor mounted.

Bottom of mounting. I shortened the nylon spacer to accomodate the thickness of the aluminum stock.

Thanks Ken, which one did you use for the R1 cluster? I am thinking you wanted it as low as possible?
